Post Help.

Hi all,

I'm strongly considering on getting my TLS tinted. I'm leaning more towards a smokey tint nothing too dark. I live in NY State and understand that the legal tint % in NY is 70% for the front and rear. With this being the case, should I even bother getting my tints done? I'm a total newbie when it comes to this subject...Is 70% a noticeable tint? Has anyone ran into trouble for tinting their cars too dark? I've visited autowindowtinting.com but failed to find a graphical view of 70%.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I will always tint my vechicles.. Ive never used anything more than 45% though. If you do get a heavily tinted film (70%) Just know that It will be great if not awesome on those bright sunny days.. however it will hinder your night time viewing (side and rear window) *Remembering back to the old Z28 days..* -at night I really hated having to roll down my window and stick my head out to see whats behind me when backing up! Stick with a moderate tint.. youll be happier in the long run..

If you are going to get between 50% - 70% tint, I would suggest you don't do it. Because it is really light tint and you will be wasting your money. Any tint on the front two windows are illegal, but I don't think you will run into trouble if you only tint your back and rear windshield. I have 30% tint on mine front and back. Yes, it is dark and illegal, but that is something you will have to take a risk if you want to get your windows tinted.

Oops,
I made a mistake on my earlier post.. 70% being a light tint.. not dark.. DOH!
anyway I say do it, it looks cool and really does help cut sun and head light glare..

in terms of heat rejection, you already have that will with the stock window glass. but if we are talking about privacy (and more heat rejection and anti-fading) then light tint is better than no tint. if you are willing to take the risk, medium tint is not too noticeably different; or just get the rears medium and the front light. if you stick with light shading, getting the more mirrored material can possibly get you more privacy than the normal glossy stuff. both materials are still metallic so you don't have to worry about fading.

Moo, where in NY are you? If you live near Elmsford, NY go to NY Window Films & Signs on Route 9. They've got a tint display on glass for you to see the darkness. They've also got a variety of tint types. Their phone number is 914-347-TINT. They aren't the cheapest but the do warenty their work. I'm having my TLS tinted there the day after I pick it up.

Any % tint will help if it only rejects heat.
The darker tint gives better heat rejection & offers better privacy. I have 51% on my car sides & rear. We also have stupid local tint laws in DC. We can only have about 75% tint on our side & 50% on the rear. I did the 51% because I probaly can get thru inspection with it on the rear. I will just take off the sides & re tint after inspection. The green glass thats in our cars makes any tint look darker.

Everyone THANKS for all your input!!!

I just drop my baby off this morning, I'm expecting to pick her up later this afternoon. I went to a place in Highland, NY. They charged me $149.00 before tax with lifetime warranty. I decided to go with 50% for both front and rear. I also had the dot matrix area tinted as well. When I asked the guy about tinting the dot matrix area, he pointed me to his own car, a CL-S :-). He told me that he had his tinted for over a year and have never ran into problems with the reception or bubbling. So I hope everything turns out well.

SlyTLS, I think I'm around an hour away from Elmsford, what tint % are you considering for your car?

I have 55% on the front 2 and 35% on the rear 3. Looks darker than I imagined it, but I guess thats because of the factory glass. I woulnd't go any darker than what I have now because night time driving almost makes using my rear view mirror pointless. I was able to identify the cars behind me before the tint, but now I only use it to see if there are any cars behind me with headlights on.
