Hello Everyone! First time Acura owner...

Hello all. I am a first time acura owner. I was recently driving a little old '97 Honda Civic but the engine bit the dust after 200,000 miles. I managed to scrape together some cash and borrow a little bit more and decided to start looking for a car. While searching for hours and hours I kept coming back to a 2001 TL. I finally decided to pull the trigger on it. I managed to talk them down from 7k to 6k and the car is mine. I will be picking it up on Friday and I cannot wait. Since I paid the down payment I have been searching the web for the last week and came across these forums. I have easily already spent a good 10-15 hours reading articles on here, especially the DIY's. I have always loved the look of acuras and when I found a TL in my pricerange I couldn't resist. I was/still am nervous about the transmission issues, but I figured it was a risk I am willing to take. I have a SSM (Satin Silver Metallic Correct?) TL with black interior. After seeing some pics on here I really like the blue one's but I will settle for SSM for now. The car has 98k miles on it and after carfaxing it appears it is still on the original tranny. Car runs smooth as hell and the tranny seems to be in good shape, not a spot of rust on the car, which is pretty amazing considering I live in upstate NY. Although I am no gearhead I have experience doing my own brakes/rotors, exhaust installs, stereo/speaker installs. Some of the mods I am already planning are the door LED light's, footwell lighting, OEM bodykit, reverse glow gauges and some others. I am so amped and psyched to get my car friday and figured I would register as I am sure I will have plenty of questions and will also be a loyal contributing member here. I already know I am going to fall in love with this car. Well just wanted to give a little intro and say hello to everyone. Peace.

Looking at the carfax, it doesn't appear it has been done. Will there be any warning signs or a way to know it is getting close to the time to replace it? Also after reviewing the DIY thread for timing belt, I don't think i have the tools to tackle a job like that. If I had the tools and a backup car in case it took longer than expected I would maybe attempt it. What am I looking at for a decent price on parts and labor to get it done somewhere?

body kits are

and like said above.. get that timing belt and water pump changed out.. you'll feel comfortable knowing that after that you only have to do fluid changes for years to come.

I don't even have the car yet and i'm afraid I may have caught it. Even though I will be broke for a bit after getting my car tomorrow, alot of the LED mods seem to be fairly inexpensive and probably the first things I will tackle.

Nice grab a camera with you when you go to pick it up, snap some quick right on the spot pics and then some afters later hehe. Nice color combo though, black interior is my fav... to bad I have tan

You'll really like the car =P< SS mode will be addicting try avoiding downshifting into 2nd then flooring it, super bad on the tranny. lol I wish I knew that before doing it so many times I probably cut down on the life my tranny by a lot of miles... if anything I'll buy a 6pd from an Accord and swap it!

Anyways... goodluck with your mods and enjoy the car... and welcome to AcuraZine!

Check out the DIY thread because there are a few mods there that are even cheaper than LEDs.

i.e. Debadge, Intake Resonator Removal, clearing, blacking out headlights, etc.

You will see as soon as you go in there cheap mods that really change the look of the car.

Is there any benefit to removing the intake resonator besides a change in the noise when accelerating? Also, will it make a difference for adding a CAI later? I believe I have to take it off to fit the CAI anyhow or am I mistaken?

Yes you do have to remove it to fit the intake.

Since I removed my resonator I have seen a little gain in my mpg and mpt.

Once you add an intake, you will have more HP and more mpg and mpt.

Definitely planning on getting the intake so I figure ill just remove the resonator now and get it out of the way. Thx for the insight.

Welcome to the site. There are some great people here full of knowledge and wisdom. You will learn a lot and burn a lot, that is, burn a lot of money the more time you spend on this site lol.

Damn, I feel so old now. I remember like it was just yesterday when I was in your position with a TL and getting acclimated to the site...Wow. Anyway, enough babbling, and welcome again!
