Hello all

Hello all, I am new here, and new to Acura as well. I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place, I apologize if I am. I don't have a whole lot of experience using forums, so I'll try my best to use the proper forum etiquette. I just recently purchased a 2002 3.2 TL Type-S. Has 132,000 miles on it. Needs some tlc. Interior is a mess (I just can't understand how someone could treat such a nice car as this, with so much disrespect), body has some scratches, couple dings, but the car is solid. I have always loved the looks of the 2nd generation TL and was pretty excited when I came across this right in my price range, as I was looking for a new to me vehicle. Doesn't seem to have any mods. Think it's pretty much stock except for the stereo system. Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting to know my car and reading all the information on here!

Thank you, justnspace. Good to know I did well. I've been reading about the transmission problems with these. The previous owner told me that the transmission had been replaced less than a year ago, and claimed it was still under warranty. However, there's no paperwork proving this. Is there a way to tell? Are the replacement transmissions prone to failure as well as the factory ones? I have read quite a few posts with people saying they're on their 2nd or 3rd transmission, but those posts are rather old so I'm not sure if the rebuilt transmission of today are better than several years ago.

if transmission was replaced with the same exact one, then yes...will fail again.
some have great luck with replacing with AV6(or honda accord) transmission

be sure to keep up with the maintenance! I would do transmission drain and fills on the regular!

I'll let other more experienced 2nd gen TL'ers answer and provide more details, as I have a 3rd gen TL.

Okay, that I'm not sure about. Definitely going to keep up with the maintenance on this car as I seem to love it more and more every day and would like to hang on to this car for quite some time. Thanks for your help!

no problem!
again, if you have a little extra cash saved for those Just in case moments, you'll be able to keep the car for a long long time.

Yes these TL's are known for their failing transmissions. But I believe I have found a solution to what has caused so many peoples transmissions to "fail." I got CEL code P0740, also known as the "Code of Death." But I overcame this and now my youtube video has over 50,000 views! I would highly recommend checking it out so encase the time ever comes that you begin to have transmission issues, you can give this simple and FREE solution a try before flushing thousands down the toilet.

Hey bud I understand you wanna plug your video but swapping out a known problem trans with one that cost a few hundred bucks is hardly "flushing thousands down the toilet."
