Heavy Steering on TLS
I love everything about my TLS except for the steering. It is much harder to steer than my Dodge Ram truck! Anyone know of a way to boost the power assist other than trading for a TLP?
Well......quite honestly...this is the first Ive heard anyone complain about the steering being hard.
It might be something with your particular car......mine steers fine, not hard at all. Take it to your service center and have them check it.

But seriously, I have not noticed it being hard or heavy to steer...and it's harder than a Dodge?
It's a sport sedan.......
main emphasizes on sport. It's supposed to be stiff and heavy feeling. If you think this is heavy, well BMW's are heavier. It's ment for high speed stability that's why it's like that.
That's funny, I always felt mine was too easy. That and the quick steering ratio make the car kind of twitchy at first. It's probably just me. I'm used to driving my overboosted Chevrolet truck. I only drive the S on the weekends.
Interestingly, I remember being at the dealer in 2000 when they had a TL with 1500 miles on it. An elderly lady had traded it in because she did not have the strength to drive the TL. She got an RL instead.

It's a tradeoff.
You guys obviously aren't driving fast enough
Try doing an emergency maneuver in a Lexus at 100mph, the steering is WAY too soft and vague. (ES300 that is)
Don't even get me started on what would happen in your Ram truck or Sienna Minivan.
For that safety you should put up with the fact that you have to use your muscles when parking at the shopping mall.

Honestly though, the TLS steering is slightly firmer than other more sedate sedans (including my previous ride, 97 Accord LX) but it's not too heavy at all. Since I learned to drive on a light truck with no power steering, the TLS doesn't feel heavy at all!

I am in the same club as rockinTLs and juniorbean. I think the steering is way too light on the highway. It's lighter than my 2000 TL was (from what I remember). The first week I drove the S on the highway, I was bouncing off the lines!! I must've looked like a drunk! My boss was ALL over the road because he drives an Audi A6 2.7T and has disconnected his power steering pump to boot!
Coosa, I would head over to King Acura and take another TL-S out and then a TL-P.

Yup, highway feel is way too jittery I think. But I've compensated by using much lighter motions when driving fast. I do appreciate the quickness when I need to make a sudden lane change.
the steering is just PERFECT for me... i hate lite steering wheels, cause i dont feel..."secure"?.... kinda hard to describe, but if i'm driving a lite one, and like juss tap it or move by mistake it may move the car out of the line... like i can drive lexus and lite steering cars with just one of my fingers....that gives me a bad feeling, so i like the heavier steering which u kinda kno whats happening and ur sure of it....
u can order them from this site, click on suspension at the top of the page... but
i also wanna know how the springs willl lighten up the steering...cuz i would not want lite steering, and also by how much does it feel ligher?

I had a 95 Nissan maxima....and the steering was full power steering like most american luxury cars...TOO LIGHT... and now..the 2000+ maximas....the steering has been changed to Power assist..which most race/sports cars have. It's stiffer..tougher to steer... I like how the TL-S feels...like a sports car
