Headers resonances
Headers resonances
ok i talked with comptech yesterday, and they said that the resonance / vibration comes from the flex bellows, they said the original run that the flex joint was to stiff causing the whole exhaust to vibrate at 2000-3000 rpm under engine load, the fix was the get the flex bellow replaced, my question is they want 200 bucks to fix that lil part, im for one not willing as i have heard you can loosen the weaves? i have done countless searches, but does anyone heard about this and have tried it? thanks, also this method should work for obx owners too...

Well AT idle with foot on brake and in Drive with AC on its like a rattle that is being muffled so not quite metal on metal but definate vibration. THen in reverse or neutral, no sound which leads me to believe since the RPMS dont change, that something is touching when the engine shifts slightly for the drive position.

The end result with my situation was that after replacing the downpipe without even moving the manifolds, the problem went away instantly. No crazy vibration. So I guess even a part that really only has one flex area could be bent wrong or so rigid or not rigid enough that it could produce a vibration sound. As to what exactly is wrong with the downpipe I removed is for comptech to test and frankly should not be the concearn of the customer. I just chalked it up to a defective part.
I keep meaning to ask Park Ave Acura if they have any cure for this but I keep forgetting. I think I got used to this problem already because I only hear it when I'm paying attenion to it, otherwise I don't hear it that often.

If you can take the downpipe off you can, in some situations, bend the flex pipe to loosen up the weave. I had the same problems with my Comptechs. I was one of the first to get them. Comptech shipped me a new downpipe and they took care of everything.
