Headers is one of the best mods for a TL. it adds very a noticeable increase in power at the top-end. Its not worth the $1000 for the comptech IMO, but well worth the $300 for OBX. I did that and pulleys a few days apart form eachother and now my car is so much more juicy

Every TL owner should have headers as their forst or second performance mod, without question.

Yea OBX's are nice if you're keeping your car for no longer than a year or two. Otherwise, go with Comptech to avoid cracked pipes and all the headaches OBX headers have caused numerous people on this forum.

They definitely add more power! I noticed that when the engine is cold there's slightly more noise from the engine compartment, and the sound is a little tinier than stock when you rev it and listen from the back.

Whenever I get a stock loaner I always notice that it's slightly quieter.

You need to contact Nashua_Nighthawk_Black on AcuraCL.com. I believe that's his correct name - he's the distributor for Stone Racing headers. Hand made in England. Good stuff!

I do feel a difference with my OBX's, and yes there is slight resonance at around 2500RPM's and a little tinny when the engine is cold. All and all I love em, next up AEM CAI or Comptech Icebox...

not half as many people have picked up stone as OBX...

if you got the cash, get comptech. always fit, last forever, top quality.

OBX sells a large amount of these headers... only a small percentage crack, and even if you had to replace them twice, your still ahead of the comptechs.

Stone is sort of a new comer, not a lot of people have picked them up but i do know that they had some fitment problems and some other minor issues that i think are now resolved.

Im sure you will be fine with stone or OBX.

I chose OBX cause eBay had a great deal on them and i was not going to say "no".

I bought/installed these badboys in November 2002.

And to this day, they still look good.

Would this be a mod I'd buy again? DEFINITELY

Prolly a dumb question but, are there any emissions problems installing any of these headers? Will my car still pass inspection?

OBX (?) and Stone headers are not certified (I think Comptech is certified, but not sure). However, as long as you regularly have your car serviced and repaired, and do not tamper with the catalytic converter, your emissions will be about the same, and should pass emissions testing.

No - this won't affect your emmissions to a point where you don't pass an inspection.

Think of it this way, many of the members of this forums with headers are from California. California has MUCH stricter emmissions standards than any other state, and none of these guys have issues. I believe both OBX and Comptech either have CARB numbers, or are CARB exempt.

Maybe a CA person could address that?

I've had no problems whatsoever. Yes, Stone are good headers, better than OBX IMHO. As far as cracks are concerned, it's all a matter of luck (or lack of it). Stone headers come with no warranty. OBX does have warranty, but doesn't mean much because OBX will refuse to warranty your headers if it develop cracks (happened to a few TL people with OBX headers when they tried to get OBX to fix/replace them).

No headers are CARB exempt (since it is BEFORE the CAT). Only Comptech's have CARB numbers...while both will pass emmisions, only 1 will pass a visual inspection. For me...I'll take my chances...maybe I can find a leanient enough shop to pass me visually.

The 3 major header brands for our cars is (as previously mentioned) Comptech (~$1000), OBX (~$300), and Stone (~$400). They're all based off of the Comptech design, and they all perform similarly. The headers shouldn't really change the sound of your car significantly (except maybe OBX). I haven't really noticed a huge difference with my Comptech headers..

It really comes down to how much you want to spend. Comptech is absolutely the best but it will cost you ~$1000-1100 brand new. If you're lucky you might be able to find used headers, but they'll still usually cost more than OBX or STONE would brand new. With OBX, the quality isn't there like Comptech. Some people have had resonance problems (the car makes noises like someone blowing over a pipe around 2500rpms), some people have had leaks in their headers, some have had fitment issues (especially with the O2 sensor), and others have had the welds start to crack after aging. These are potential problems, some people have had their OBX headers and had no problems what-so-ever. Supposedly later shipments of OBX have fixed some of the problems like the resonance issues, but I'm not 100% sure.

Stone headers are a mixed bag as well ... With the first two shipments of Stone headers many people had fitment issues including myself. Mine were probably one of the worst fitments, I haven't heard of anyone else that wasn't able to get their Stone headers to fit with a little bit of extra work. The third shipment of Stone headers that Nashua has been promising are supposed to have a perfect fitment, but that remains to be seen so far. At $400 the quality is better than OBX but still not as good as Comptech. There isn't as many people with Stone headers as there are with OBX, and because the Stone headers for our cars have only been around for about a year there's not a lot of evidence to support whether they'll crack or not. But if there really aren't fitment issues with the 3rd batch then Stone is probably the best middle ground for headers.

Overall, if you want a set of no worries headers, Comptech is the best ... but the savings is pretty significant with OBX/Stone. So much so that you could buy almost 3 sets of the OBX or Stone headers for the price of the Comptechs
