Arrow green light key symbol 101 - what does this actually indicate???

99TL having trouble starting it, intermitant problem.

When it does work seems green key light symbol lights up, flashes a few times and turns off, When that IS happening car seems to start fine!

Noticed thanks to a poster on this forum, that when it IS ACTING UP AND WONT START that green key light symbol either is NOT being shown AT ALL or when you go to turn the key a few times it kinda started to briefly light up for a fraction of a second but then wouldnt.

Thing that I can tell you is that once car IS ON it stays on! So with that said,

-What does this indicate?
-What is the fix?
-Does it need a part replaced?

what is strange is that if you leave the car alone for a day it will possibly turn on next time you try and start it?

The green key light stays on while you're driving? That's not normal.

Normally when you star the car, it should show up and then go away.

If the car doesn't recognize your key, it will stay blinking.

not that statement is not correct. The times the car starts the green light shows up and goes away as normal (as you described) but when the car doesnt want to start when you put the key in the ignition and turn it the green light doesnt come on at all at any time of the process

The flashing green key is your immobilizer indicator. My recommendation (I am a certified honda tech) is take it to your local acura dealer and have them do a hard reset of the immobilizer and reprogram your keys.

It could also be a bad immobilizer itself. If it is a bad immobilizer, the tech will be able to tell through the diagnostic system used to program keys.

Try a different key.
As mentioned above, possibly the immobilizer has went bad ?
Gotta love the newer hi-tech interlock setups ! Anti-theft backfiring at ya.
A difficult "DIY" to analyze without the service manual, and even then ?????

No, the valet key wont have any different affect on your immobilizer. Your best bet is still to go to your dealer. It is possible you have a bad immobilizer, if not then they can do a hard reset.

If you were stalling out while driving, I would have said ignition switch, but I'm not sure about your situation. Your best bet is to do more research and then get a diagnostic at a dealer, if you don't figure it out online.

The immobilizers in our cars can be a blessing and a severe PITA. I know on Hondas, there is a brake code that can be entered to bypass the immobilizer, but im not sure who would know that process. Since we have Honda Diagnostic software, and are able to do hard resets and program new keys, we dont do the brake codes.

When you say "Hard Reset" are you talking about something different than dissconnecting the battery?

or is there a different type of "HARD RESET" that the dealership does with there equipment that differs?

Either try replacing the immobilizer as previously suggested, or.......have the problem professionally evaluated !!!!!

dude really? Come on lets be sensible. You think this is what I like to do for fun or something.

If you like to narror your cars problem down to a few possible things and then start to work on/pay to change parts to sometimes find out, o wait nooo that wasnt the problem at all well then lets try changing this etc. Go ahead you wont see me messing with you for it.

Mine just did this to me right now. i am about to get it towed to a mechanic.

the battery seems good. a coworker hooked up his emergency battery/pump/ light thing to it. it read as "good". though i left in on for a while just in case.

- nothing.

tried unplugging the negative for 10 minutes, still nothing.

never wants to click over. its flashed the green light symbol on some of the tries. and on other tries it beeps 6 times.

i am going to try the spare key later just to cover all bases.

IT WAS THE STARTER!!!

i am screaming because it wasnt as bad as i thought.

1) i believe the acura always beeps 6 times, i just didnt notice until it wouldnt start, made me think it was an error code.

2) the green key always flashes, again didnt notive until i was having issues.

I paid $60 to have it towed from sunnyvale to san jose (if i would have known it was the starter i guess i could have banged on it with a wrench to get it to kick over). then to have it replaced along with new brake pads in the rear, and an oil change i paid $385.

it burned a little, but i think that's a fair price and i had my car working same day before 6pm.
