Got keyed dammit

Parked at the intersection near my house last night, near a stop sign/ Bad idea, but no spots left. Today, after I park at school and take a walk around my car to see how close I am to other cars, I find a smile etched into my hood. Not too bad I think, except for a few sections that got down to the metal.

Kinda hard to see in the pics, took them at night with a crappy camera.

Happened in Bayview/HP, for SF residents. Anyone have any idea as to how much this might cost?

Some sections are down to the metal. Most of it catches my finger when i run my nail over it. Don't think it can be, I wish it could though. It'd make my life easier.

Sorry to see that. It must be the car you parked too close that didn't give him a gap to move his car out. That is what stupid, low life people would do to key someone's car.

Couldn't be neighbors, I know them all personally. It's more on the side of where I live. Was kinda expecting it someday, but there haven't been any problems in my area for the past few years. And no other cars have been keyed in that spot for awhile as well.

That SUX! I know how it feels like when some one messes with your car. Last week I got my Tire slashed because I took up 2 parking spots on the street, in Queens. I would probably had killed them if I caught them....

its gonna cost you like 500 for that
the best is to go thru insurance for that.
you are lucky its only on the hood, alot of people got way worser than that.

And to tell you the truth, you paint will never be as good as the OEM paint.

goodluck

check the rest of your car for scratches that "could be" related to getting keyed and file an insurance claim that your car was vandalised. If you have serious scratches on more than just your hood or want a full paint job done and paid for by your insurance, then take your key and scratch a few other sections of your car really hard. if you have deep scratches on 3 or more large sections of your car, the insuirance company should pay to have your entire car repainted. now that would be nice!

But what if your deductible is > $500? If that were me, I wouldn't process that through insurance ... more claims you have against your policy ... higher rates. No thank you.

And that would be insurance fraud and a felony in your name. No thank you. (I realize you were thinking aloud).

Couldn't find anything in the way of scratches on the rest of the car, but there are plent of other small, and not so small, chips and stuff around the rest of the car. The scratch itself has abot 2 major points of going thru to the metal, with about 7 other small points here and there.

I'm gonna get an estimate from my friends shop in a week or so. Hope its not as much as 500, but it probably is. If it costs too much for me, I got AAA and a great person to talk to.

I would avoid insurance fraud. Just seems like a socially irresponsible thing to do

Try buffing out the scratches first before going to get the whole thing repainted.. you might find that most of it will come out, and you might be able to use touchup paint on the parts that are deeper.
