To good to be true???

I've found a 2003 TL-S on ebay, with 32000 miles. Owner says its never been wrecked, flooded, or any kind of altercations done, and all the pics look great from what I can tell...The kicker is...he's willing to sell it for...get this ..only 8k....After I contacted the seller to ask additional questions, the listing was deleted from ebay, but he contacted me saying he was willing to sell, and would use ebay secure pmt. (he doesn't get paid until I get the car)...Anyone else run across any deals like this...?

Opinions....

Definitely something wrong here...Just my Ask where the car is located and see if somebody from this board who knows the TL really well will take a look at it on your behalf, it's worth a shot!! Also, def. check out carfax!!

Sure looks like a scam to me. He'll probably tell you the car isn't in the US. It's somewhere overseas and he can't register it there because it's a US vehicle and he has to sell it because his sister's mother's neighbor's friend's brother's grandkid has cancer and they need the money really bad and he's gonna let the car go for a loss.

sounds like a sweet deal, but to tell you the truth i prolly wouldnt touch that with a 30 ft pole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sounds like you gonna get the chassis of the car , but you never know, get a copy of the title, carfax report and just make sure its kosher before you put that money out!!

ebay doesn't guarantee any transaction outside of ebay. If the car is located near you, then check it out. If not, IMO then dont buy it even if you have a carfax or copy of the titte.

and make sure it is a TL-S! could be a TL-P with slapped on TL-S wheels and badge. another possibility is that it could be salvage, and hence warranty is nil and void if you want to take the TL in for warranty work. my 2 cents.

you could always find a cheap flight and go see the car. It would be cheap insurance before finding out you were taken.

Here's a copy of the email he sent me...

Dear Customer,
The car is located in Naperville, IL. It has all the papers(complete) as well as the servicebook.
I want this transaction to be smooth enough as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and have very few time at my disposal. The car is in perfect condition, no scratches, no special marks, no need for additional repairs what so ever. 32K miles onboard, a great car ready to be yours. I am the first owner of the car and it has no accident or any engine problem.
The price is $8000 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction. Now, in order to be able to buy it please let me know if you have any negative feedback and, if this is the case, for what reason. I apologize for asking for such information but I need to be sure.
Please also provide me with the following details necessary to take a decision:
-your full name and address for shipping
-your ph#
Regarding the payment I am aware of the buyer's protection and we will use eBay Motors secure payments which will hold the payment until the buyer receives the car. To complete payment the you must have cash available.
If I receive the requested information you will be informed by eBay during the next 12-24 hours.

I'll pass.

You must be new. When I was new......I had a hard time using the nomenclature "TL-P" also. Because Acura does not refer to the TL (Premium) as a TL-P or TL-Premium. Acura calls it a TL. And you know the whole Type-S business. But here on Acurafizzle dot com, we use the letters "TL-P" to quickly refer to the base model TL. Otherwise we spend hours in agony wondering..... "Is he talking about that nasty fin on his TL or his Type-S?"

You dig?

Notice how the e-mail began "Dear Customer:" That should be the first sign that this is a scam.

I completely agree...the dear customer thing is a tip off.
I do have a question though regarding these scams, if you go onto like Yahoo! Autos and do a car search. There are people who sell cars for cheap, liek TL's that are unreasonably low...they claim the same thing as this ebay thing did. I wonder though, when they state hte mileage--they say "combination"...does anyone know what that means?

Talking Seen It

Yeah i remember a few months ago i was on carsdotcom and found an '04 Acura NSX with custom chameleon paint job and over 20 pics, including pics of titles, registrations, all sorts of documents -and how much did they want? $15k plus shipping from ITALY! seriously now who's gonna be dumb enough for that? i guess they figure it doesn't hurt them to try. about a week later i found a beautiful shiny black '03 Chevy Tahoe with all options and tons of pics for $13! sounded JUST like the same guy from the info that was on there.

since its an obvious scam, u should start gettin fishy with HIM! tell him u want to meet up with him in person to check out the car and choose a dark secluded place to meet. tell him you'll be the 6'11" guy in all black with the trenchcoat and long slender briefcase. tell him that the only reason you want to meet in such a secluded place is that you're not very social and you absolutely HATE it when people stare at your eyepatch. OF COURSE you're not actually meeting him anywhere and DO NOT give hime ANY of your real info. (feel free to add any of your own creativity to that scenario)
