Going to the Zone tomorrow, need a checklist!

Just got my $285.00 check, about $200.00 goes to my mom for bills (my last payment then all my other checks go towards my car or whatever), anyways it's oil change time and I need a set in stone list. I want to switch from reg. Wal-mart changed nasty oil, so fully synthetic oil. Since the oil in the car now sucks huge balls I want to Seafoam it before I put in the new stuff.

I'm thinking about getting Castrol Fully Synthetic 5W-30 motor oil(how many quarts do I need for a 2001 TL-P??) it's $6.99 a qt.

I'm not 100% sure on what oil filter, I'm ashamed to say but this is my first oil change I'm doing myself so can someone chime in on what's a good oil filter.

I'm also going to purchase 2 bottles of seafoam, how do you recommend I use it? Like in the gas tank or pour it into the oil?

All help is GREATLY appreciated !

Use seafoam in vac port and crankcase.
IDK about Autozone, but advance auto parts always runs oil change specials, like buy 5 quarts of _______, and get a free ____ oil filter. It changes brands every once in a while.

1/2 can seafoam in the oil and drive 30 minutes/miles- immedialty change oil and filter

1 can in 1/2 tank of gas- drive normally

1/2 can in intake vac port/nipple at throttle body atachment to intake manifold- see DIY last pages for best info and pics

fram filters made cheap- go napa or wix for cheap but good
Any name brand oil- I run penzoil platinum 5 qt jug at wally's for 20 bucks

it takes 4.7 but ok to add full 5 qts at change time

Mobil 1 Extended performance 5w3 (5 quart Jug) from walmart and any filter of your choice. Most hate fram, its pretty much the only thing ive ever used. Get the exteded guard filter if you get the fram.

I personally use 1 can seafoam in the gas tank, one thru the vac line. and on occasio just before the oilchange one in the crankcase for 15 min of ideling on warm motor then change oil.

It is about $8.

You put it in the gas tank or PVC line.

It cleans out the carbon that may have built up in your engine over time.

I put it in my car for the first time at ~115,000 and I noticed a difference.

It is never too late to begin using it.

P.S. I know this doesn't have to do with the topic but Sears has jacks on sale this week. I just picked up a jack, stands, and creeper for $100.

nice, I need stands but right now I'ma skip on those and just drive my 4x4 up the ramps. Once it gets dropped then I'll have to jack the car up.

I got a 7 quart Blitz drain pan from Advance Auto a while back. Works fine for me.
Handy, how does that one work, does the top come off or something?

u take out the white plug and let the oil hit the pan and it drains in. then u empty it from the snout.

no. its not squirting out oil. it just pours out, whatever the gravitational pull is, thats how fast its gonna drain.

My bad Slusshyy, wasn't trying to be a dick. I read your question wrong.

Why can't you empty into the new oil quarts you just used? That's what I do.

You take the white cap in the middle off, open the yellow vent, and let oil drain into. Close the white cap and open the spout cap when you're ready to drain.

I actually thought Slushhyy was asking about that.

Why would they be full? You can pour it into the motor, then pour the old oil into the oil containers.

There's a little mix up here... lol... I believe this is what people are saying...

You drain the oil from the car into a pan, bucket, catch container of some sort... (the remove/replace the oil filter)

(put the drain plug back in the motor)

Fill the motor with fresh oil...

THEN you could pour the old oil from your pan, bucket, catch container - into either the new (now empty) oil containers (quart or gallon) or use an old milk jug, two liter bottle, container of your choice in order to take it to your local recycling center (auto parts store).

For goodness sakes please don't add new oil before draining the old oil!!!!

you can take that type drain pan right to any auto parts store- its a good sealed carry container- of course wipe off the part where oil residue is

Putting a ziplock bag around the oil filter before removal is another trick to keeping things clean

The drain pan has a little lip built into it next to the drain hole- place the filter-hole side down- on that and it will drain into the pan

Stores are required to take your old oil for free
Be reasonable and only take in as much as you buy~

Ehh well, I went to Wal-Mart to start off, thinking I would be able to get everything there, I was about to leave after only seeing a ton of Valvoline garbage then the aisle next to it, was the Castrole and Mobil stuff. So I grabbed fully synthetic Mobil Extended performance, 5qt jug of 5w-30 for $26.99. I also grabbed 2 cans of Seafoam for $8.99 ea. So I went to check out after not being able to fine the Mobil oil filter... the lady at the register scans the oil-good, then she scans the Seafoam the register thing beeps and it says to check my I.D. if I'm older then 18!

Total bullshit as I'm 17, I swear who in their right mind buys seafoam or ANYTHING that goes into a car and gets high with it? Total dumb ass people these days. So I just got the oil and left.

I went to AutoZone next and picked up a Mobil Extended Performance oil filter, 2 rainex wipers (freaking $18.99 a wiper) and 2 bottles of seafoam. AZ is kewl and they know when people buy stuff like seafoam it's for the car, not to trip balls on... lol. So ya for oil filter, 2 wipers, 2 bottles of seafoam I payed freaking 70 something bucks lmfao! Anyways here a pic of all the junk, I'll be changing oil today maybe tomorrow.

ALSO- for the seafoam, I went to start with my gas tank, I have almost half a tank do I just pour it directly into my gas tank? Like half a bottle for half a tank or an entire bottle? Thanks again for the help, really means a lot!
