Giving up the TL-S.

I've decided to give my 2002 Tl Type-S to my son. He will be driving in about a week.

The car is in perfect condition, haven't decided what to get next. I'm giving this account to him because he needs it now, more than me anyways.

Just hope he doesn't wreck it. I really like the car, its hard to give it up! But its safe, a good thing for him! A little bit faster than what I would like his first car to be, but he'll just have to be responsible.

Wish him luck!

Thanks to all that have helped me with my now given up TLS.

He is on here now, so thanks again!

Wrong age. I signed up on here because my Acura was messing up and I was in a big hurry. Guess I'll have to get that changed.

You're a great dad! If he F's it up, F him in the A, figuratively. Make him love the car so he takes care of it well, I learned to love my car, and now I treat it as if it were my baby

Nice first car. Very nice of you. Get an 07-08 TL-S or an 07-08 RL.

Yeah, he is going to have to be extremely cautious, until I find something else I want. I have another car I can drive, but still. If it breaks down, then I'll be using the TLS.

I think my next car will definately be an Acura. I like the MDX, but its too expensive for me right now. I like the new RLs, but the front is ugly. The back though, is a different story. Very sexy. 4G Tls, wouldn't even think about it. Considering a 3G Tl. Don't know if I would get the Type-S though. RDXs are nice, and would tow my other love (Kawasaki Ultra 250X) but they don't get very good gas mileage. Just not sure yet. 3G Tl is looking the best.

If my TLS survives his high school career , I will probably get him a 1G TSX to take to college and let him keep the TLS.

Then I'm going to get something I really want. He picked out the TLS when I was looking for a new car.

IS-F looks to wild eyed. I was thinking more of C63 AMG? Or maybe NSX?

I'll probably keep it more toned down with this next purchase. Maybe a good used 3G TL.

Yeah, there is a few wear and tear things with it. As with any car.

If you know how to fix these, feel free to respond. I would like to get them fixed before I give it to him.

1) Door Trim is losing its Clear Coat/Paint. (Can anyone find a thread that shows how to take it off?)

2) Headlights are getting cloudy.

Would it be worth the work to get the door trim off and paint it myself or just take it and get it done? It is just the two B Pillar pieces and on the drivers side the rear chrome piece that is supposed to be painted black. The black is coming off and you can see the chrome.

I know everything about the car. I know where every little touch up spot I have fixed is. This car is my baby, its never been abused. lol The fastest I've ever had it up to was 110 and I've only gotten it that fast 3 times.

I saw today that the new pontiac g8 gxp is pushing 400hp stock and its a reasonable price. Crappy gas mileage I'd imagine since its a v8 but hey thats a lot of horses pulling you

for the door trim; you have a couple of options.
you can either replace it with carbon fiber ones, or chrome ones
or you can put a black vinyl over it to cover it up
or you can take them off and repaint them

for the headlights; check out the DIY collection and look at the wetsanding option. it works wonders.

Haha yea they are but hey could make the prices go down if they get desperate. And I hear what your saying with it being american made but for the price and how people have reviewed it so far seems like a good bang for your buck. Plus you can say you havea v8

Actually, the G8 is made on the Holden chassis (based on the commodore), an Aussie company. The G8's are sweet, IMO. Im pretty sure the 6MT variant is available or is going to be very soon. The car is nice looking, plenty of power, smooth ride, and in the MT trim should get pretty good fuel econ. The six speed GM v8 cars have done well in the past, I used to own a 2001 SS Camaro 6MT that averaged 21-22 city and 28 hwy. Not bad for 320 WHP.. Also, my buddy has a '06 ZO6 vette pushing 505 HP and he gets 27 hwy. Just cause its a v8 doesnt mean its going to suck gas..lol.

If you're wanting to stay with an Acura, i would highly suggest a 07-08 TL-S. Drove my friends TL-S...wow! Powerful and sweet looking. Only a suggestion...but good luck with whatever you choose.

If you ask me going to any GM is a step down from Acura, if you want to step up from Acura, my suggestion is an Audi A4, same gas mileage and a ton more car.

Having driven my fair share of GM's IMO are the worst built cars ever.

Just my opinion though.

Isnt an audi the same as a volkswagen? I drove a new Jetta recently, and it felt too "plastic" for lack of a better word.

GM has gone through a lot of refinement lately. Only reason Im not driving a new Camaro is because I cant afford one. The TL is the nicest car I could find for the price.

If he wants to anywhere besides school, then he has to pay for his own gas.

I need to get the windows tinted, and I'm going to add a spoiler. Anything else, he has to add.

I'm going to park it in his parking spot at school. Tell him he has to ride home with girl friend (that parks right beside him) When he gets out there, it'll be parked there with a big bow on it.

What should I write on the window? I'm going to put a card on it that says, Love Dad, be careful.

What should I write on the windows?

His birthday passed, and its before Christmas. Idk, what to put.

ermm... you sure they weren't gold diggers? or just slutty? our cars don't make girls want you, period.

Maybe it's just cuz all the popular guys had better cars at my school :/ and my school was like white as hell so ppl were into lifted trucks.

Good safe car for him, as long as he does not pound on it.

After buying a brand new 2001 Bonneville SSEi, I will NEVER buy another GM car. 2 Airbag sensors, 3 control arms, whining transmission and all with 80,000 highway miles. I got rid of it and went back to an Acura product. I had an 88 Legend with 210,000 on it and NEVER had a thing go wrong with it.

If you want to be practical, buy a Civic EX (great car, good milage). If you want more car, but another TL-S.

Okay, he is getting it Monday. I have to find a giant bow now. I think I'm probably going to end up making one. Maybe tie some balloons on it.

I'm sure after he gets it, he will post pictures on here.

Tell you son congrats. I got my CL when I turned 16 a few months ago. It will be a big hit with the ladies, trust me. On the window you should write "You're only 16 once, so enjoy it"
