Red face Ghost in the machine

Anyone else noticed this? Many times when I am in the garage standing outside the car, I hear a faint sound like a fog horn from a ship in the distance. It is coming from somewhere in the car and the car is not running. Sometimes it happens hours after it was last running. Any clues what this is? It's an '02 TL-S.

no joke i heard that the last time i was changing my oil. sounds like it is coming from the rear of the car. like some sort of pump. it would go off for about 10- 20 secs then stop then a few mins later on again. i thought i was the only one hearing it too. my car was off and the key was in my pocket.

It's the evaporative canister releasing pressure back to the gas tank. My car does the same thing, it sounds like a cow mooing! I nearly shit when I first heard it.

I agree. It is the fuel tank venting. This is very common, especially with motorcycles. On this car, though, it is a bit more noticeable I must confess.
