Getting very poor gas milege on new TL-S /w 1,400 miles...Is this normal?
I have driven my car approximately 1,400 miles and for a full gas tank I have beeen only able to get a total of 210 miles. It has gotten better since I first baought it a month ago, when I got only 167 miles. I drive equal miles on the street and highway and acelerate moderately most of the time.
One time, I drove about 80% on highway to see what kind of milege I would get and I only got 210 miles on the tank.
I know that the car is new and that the pistons need to be broken in, but I think that this kind of milege is still very poor for a new car. Please let me know if this is normal for my car and if you experienced the same milege when you first got your TL-S. Based on your responses, I may take the car back to the dealer for an emmissions check or something.
I have approched the dealer with this concern, but they said that I have to wait till I get 3-5,000 miles before I can effectively test for milege. Thanks.

Well, that doesn't sound like good mileage, but it sounds normal for city driving. You should get 350-400 miles per tank on the highway (assuming constant highway speeds).

yeah, but city driving should be 19mpg on average when the car is at prime. However, I'm getting more like 12 at 1,400 miles. That to me sounds like Lincoln Navigator milege.

Ouch, that is low. I noticed you live in Brooklyn. Are you idling most of the time?
My car started out at about 19 mpg and I thought that was bad!

Hey Big, you need to measure your mileage before you can really know if something is wrong or not.. might just be the gauge.
Reset your trip meter when you fill up. When you fill up next time, divide miles/gallons. Should be around 19 or so for city driving.
-EDIT-
Oops didnt read all the way down. Yeah 12 is way low man.

I can help you with this one: I am on my first tank in my TL-S and at half-tank it got about 180 miles or so. Since it is my first tank, it may be not full, so a few more and I'll know. I also do about 80% highway driving.

Sounds normal to me from my experience with my TL and my 2000 Accord V6..it had horrendous gas mileage until about 3000 miles, and it went up slightly. I get about 240 miles on a full tank and I too live in NyC. The TL..i haven't even gone thru a full tank yet but at 80 miles, the tank was down to half..

Man, you guys are making me very Jealous. I'm hearing great gas milege. 350-400 miles per tank is great. Maybe there is somethin wrong with my car. I drives well and has lots of power as I expected, but man it is killing me on gas. Gas in NYC is more than two bucks a galon. Plus I hate the fact that there might be something wrong with my car. I'm really considering taking it back to the dealer. This sucks I can only get 210 miles per tank at best. Plus i got rear ended yeasterday and now there's a dent and a visible hole on the rear bumper cover. I called the dealer and they said it would cost me $250 for a non-painted replacement.

My TL gas mileage started out bad. It seemed as if it only got about 250 miles to a tank but it now has 9,900 miles on it and it progressively got better. I fill up every 5 days. I'm not sure how many miles between fill ups but starting 2moro I will log them.
