Question Get a TL-s or CL-s?

Well heres my problem. All 5 nearest dealers have 0 Silver TL-s's with nav. The closest one has 4 silver CL-s's with nav. I have only driven 2 door cars and would like to know have a 4 door.

I am wondering what changes will be for the 2002 CL-s. Currently the differences I can see between the '01 CL-s and '02 TL-s are:
CL-s -- TL-s
2dr -- 4dr
6 speaker -- 5 speaker(sub)
Speed sens steer -- Torque sens steer
No OEM body kit -- OEM body kit avail.
Seats 4 -- seats 5

So for the money I would get the TL-s but does anyone think the '02 CL-s will be more like the '02 TL-s when it comes out. Seems easier to get a CL-s but I do not need a car so I could just wait until a silver TL-s is in stock.

I am sure most of you would say get the TL-s so maybe I should not ask but does anyone have any info or link to info about the '02 CL-s?

TL-S, because this is the TL forum.

CL-S adv., - cheaper, better seats
CL-S disadv., - the bottom half of the side mirrors are black, insurance is higher, 03 gets a 6 speed stick (so 02 value will probably drop even more)

TL-S adv., - better resell value, lower insurance $$, looks better too!
TL-S disadv., none! :p

TLS! Just looks better! If the CL was shorter in length, then I would like it more. The car just looks too long.

Suck it up and wait. Order a TL-S. I waited a little over 2 weeks and will pick up mine tonight or tomorrow. Certain it will be worth the wait. You sort of answered your own question. You want a four door and you are willing to wait.

Come on, VG. You know you want the TLS. When will the CLS have a body kit? The CLS is just a newer, bigger, more powerful version of your Accord. Do we need to go for another test drive so you know you have to have the TLS? Let's go to Acura of Portland and get one on order for you.

Seriously, Acura should just save their money and remove that ridiculous 5th rear seatbelt. I'll never be able to fit 5 grown adults in that car and not have them complain about the space.

Get the TLS. I've never been attracted to 2-door cars. Just too inconvenient to get things and people in and out of the back seat. Plus, when Baby comes, it's a nightmare to get the baby seat in and out of a 2-door. But that's just me

I waited 4 weeks for my TLS. It's worth the wait.

The 5th seatbelt in my TL-S is always used by my daughter. She likes to see what is going on. However, that's the only one who can comfortably sit there for any distance.

IMO the entire back seat of a CL-S is useless. It's more of a 2+2 arrangement as far as legroom goes. Too claustrophobic for me but, hey this is your car, not mine.

If you do need a useable back seat, I vote for the TL-S.

Re: Get a TL-s or CL-s?

It all depends on your needs. Do you need a 4 door? Do you want a 2dr? What looks better to you? Personally If wait is the only thing holding you back, then I would suck it in and waut, and get the exact car you want. Be patient. To be honest, if they had teh TL-S when I was shopping around, I might of picked it up instead of the CL-S.

How is the TL-s much faster than the CL-s????

They use the same engine and transmission and weigh about the same!

I agree that it is just a preference 2-dr or 4-dr...

Choose the style you prefer. Or if you need the practicality of 4 doors, go with TL-s.

I drive alone or with one passenger 95% of the time, so the back seat is not an issue with me. And when passengers do have to ride in the back, the auto-walk in feature (seats automatically slide forward when the lever is pulled and return to the original position when the seat is pulled back ) always gets comments like, "wow..that's neat!"

Man it all depends on what your lookin for if your into the sporty look the CL is for you.. But the TL offers way more your getting the full deal if you wait on the TL your getting room, speed, and luxury you can't beat that period.. TL is the total package as far as i look @ it from my view i'm kind of on the same wave length as the person who said suck it up and wait.. once you get in the ride you won't want to get out of it hell when you receive it you'll find yourself spending most of your time in it to some extent some of that status is true what they say about this car you'll even find excuses to drive it and go out of your way to us it. We'll thats my view on the situatution i test drove both i test drove the the CL then the TL, the CL was lacking something but once i got behind the wheel of the TL the dealer had to drag me away from the car.

Don't get a CL just because you're anxious to get a new car. You might regret it later and keep kicking yourself for not getting the car you really wanted.

That being said, the CL-S is a great machine, probably the best sports coupe on the market, definitely at its price. The TL-S fills the same niche for the sports sedan crowd. Pick the car you really want, even if you have to wait, and you'll be happy!

Sometimes when you ask for opinions on this site your get some really biased opinions. You can also get some very uninformed opinions. Occasionally you get some valid points of view as well. In the case of this thread, you got a lot of the first two and only a few of the latter.

Here's my opinion (you decide which group it fits into)...

I traded in a Legend Coupe for my TL-S because I needed the extra doors and I wanted a newer Acura. I never considered the CL because my experience with the coupe was that it was totally unpractical (rendering the back seat virtually useless) and the doors are bigger and harder to get in and out of.

The TL-S is a car you can plan on keeping for a long time, and you can absolutely grow into. So if you need the extra room for business, or for kids, or just for getting stuff in and out of the back seat the TL will make more sense.

Ride and performance-wise, the TL is reported to have a nice ride and evidentally its a few tenths of a second faster (whatever the hell that really means!).

I waited a couple of weeks for my TL-S...no big deal. In fact, if you make the deal and sign the contract you can essentially drive your old car for free until the new car arrives.

Hope that helped.

Sounds like Acura is have its tremedous sales boost. congrats = ). hopefully the next generation RL can be put on bar against other fine cars too, leaving the consumer more choices of Acura's entire line of great cars.

Why don't they put RSX Into Honda lines? IMO it kinda drags down the brand image a bit?? given that TL/CL/RL are fully luxury cars??

I don't think there's a negative when purchasing either a TL-S or CL-S. It all depends on what makes you happy right now and in the long run. I had the same dilemna...I chose the CL-S as it suited my lifestyle and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Of course, posting your question in a TL Forum will have biased opinions vs. posting on the CL site. What ever you do, take your time...! Good luck...

Yes, this issue has been debated quite a lot. What I'm surprised about is to hear a GS430 owner admitting that the TL/CL/RL are luxury cars--most seem to deride the Acura as a "near-luxury" car! Thanks for the compliment!

To all,

Thanks for your input. As I mentioned I am not in a hurry to purchase a new car so waiting is not a problem. I read that the '02 CL-s is only getting minor changes so I do not want that one anyway. Not to change the subject but I originally wanted a MDX but I will not pay >MSRP like they want and I do not like any other SUV on the market. I own my Accord so I could just keep that for a long time and get an SUV in the future.

To Tea elle,

I did not know you can get a deal then wait for a car to come in. This would really be helpful because there are things like my alarm, fogs and wheels/tires that I need to remove before the trade-in. I plan on them quoting me a price without those items. I will not remove them if I do not get a fair price for the TL or my Accord. So if I sign a contract then while I wait I could get all the things changed on my car.

So has anyone else done this before? If a silver one comes in but I do not like that particular one could I just wait for another? And if I totally decide not to buy then what happens to the contract?

Your input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
VG

No problem, I don't really give a darn about fake wood, leather quality, I felt the CL, TL are quite comfortable, the wood trim goes just as well. Not to mention its performance, just because the price is reasonable does'nt mean it is a sub luxury car. just my 02.

Just that once it sales this well, we have to pay almost MSRP = P
