JDM is an acronym for Japanese Domestic Market. We all knew this by the late 90's.
The "term" JDM, referring to a style started in California is what people tend to argue over to no avail. The term JDM was coined by import lovers, mostly Honda heads in the early to mid 90's. As you know, Cali had some strict D.O.T standards in the early 90's.
Remember when the all white tail lights were the shit?... the Cali guys were only able to rock them at car shows, pictures of which ended up in the mags...Super Sport Compact...that's how the East Coast got on the band wagon.
Here on the East Coast, we were allowed to put all sorts of cheap JDM "Accessories" on our cars and get away with it. On the West Coast, they got tickets for having "all clear tail lights" or for any non D.O.T approved parts. This also went for engine modifications as well as emissions.
In order to be different and stand out amongst their peers, yet stay under the police radar...they swapped their USDM parts for their corresponding JDM parts...subtle difference but was noticed by a true enthusiast, yet slip under the police radars.
Some of these "JDM" parts even had Honda stamped on them, so even if they get stopped and harassed, they would get away with the JDM Honda stamped, head lights, tail lights, mirrors ect. Quickly, this became a style amongst the hardcore.
The style was coined "JDM"and was exploited by enthusiasts in a hurry. The style then became a "trend" where it started to loose it's luster. Now, it's considered by me to be a FAD, which in my book is lower than a trend. Thank "insert your god here" that "old School" is making a come back. It'll be nice again when getting props for your "tite work" does not only include, outrageous priced "OEM" "JDM" parts like a cluster swap and or $500 oem steering wheel swap or $1500 "JDM" seat swap etc.
Anyway, I hopes this help clear up SOME of the "JDM" argument. It seems that the term/style jdm is being misunderstood for a bunch of Japanese Domestic Parts and it's true meaning is being lost in all these meaningless arguments.

I swear this same JDM topic will never end, coming from a person who started one of the FIRST JDM war 
on this site........its always a fruitcake thats has something against the term JDM, or just cant fitin......imagine everyone on this thread defending JDM when I was in the hotseat I was the only one defending JDM.......you guys make me proud 
, but all that term meaning crap is oldnews......DO new mods, take sick photoshoots, post some boobies of hot girls, we all got ill cars, why cant we argue about which movie star has the fatest ASS or something?........
