need some advice

since i blacked out my headlights, i wasn't thinking and blacked out the turn signal housing. the turn signal are not bright enough by a long shot, i mean its dangerous.

see below

get the picture?

so i was thinking about chroming the turn signal housing so it reflexs some usable light, of coarse any chrome paint in a can sucks and does not look like chrome

or just plop in LED turn signals in hopes that they throw more light

but i was looking at ALSA CORPORATION Killer Cans Chrome
has anyone used this paint before and is it really worth 115 bucks for a kit of it. http://www.alsacorp.com/products/kil...llerchrome.htm

this stuff looks like its real chrome

what should i do, get LED's? use this killer chrome stuff? does anyone know of some cheap real chrome paint? just leave it?

thanks

IMHO just get LEDs and hope for the best.

If you get an LED with like 35+ LEDs you should be good. What the hell just get switchbacks.

ok, i am going to re-paint the housing, and put a clear coat on which i currenty do not have. im not sure why i never did a clear coat, i must have been out there that day

then get switchback color changing LED's and hope that this works, i think because i dont have a clear coat on is why it has like no light reflect. i did do a clear coat the first time i did them, then it leaked and got water all over it and f-ed it up so i just repainted them with no clear coat. me being careless and stupid - lol

do some wetsanding to make sure its ultra smooth for uniform reflection.

no sense in spending 115 on chrome when i can get LED's for 60 bucks

its not a big deal to repaint them because i got the inside of the lens is all dirty and crap so i have to clean it anyways and take it apart

thanks again guys, ill post pics somtime

l

i assume you all clear coated your headlights inside??

aint putting any depo lights in my car

ill fix mine so they look brand spanken new

thanks all for confirming that it will work blacked out, i guess it just needs to be shinny like a black glass stove top i looked closely at mine and the paint is slightly orange peeled so that must be sucking up the light.

thanks again guys, i cant wait start working on it and get it looking right - woot

Mine arent clear coated...just used the same paint from the grille and wheels to black out mine. Maybe it has more gloss than what you used?

Im with ya Zeus-for some reason my driver side headlight looks crystal clear, but the passenger keeps clouding back up..need to work on it some more..

twistedwedge, if its clouding up then its prob not sealed right, i removed the factory glue with a heat gun and a knife. it took me an hour to do it but it was worth it. then i used a silicon adhesive to put them back together and no more leaks or clouding up again. im wondering how im going to get these things apart again, ill figure it out.

ZEUS, sand them down with 1000 grit and 1500 or 2000 grit wet, then use a headlight restore kit to finish them off (15 bucks, it goes in the chuck of a drill), and polish them with a good coat of wax for protection.

good luck guys, we should make a blacked out head lights club or somthing hahaha

i think after i repaint and clear coat, i will spray that clear liquid turtle wax for an super shine to match my grill.

LOL dangerous? there are much worst elements out there in the world that can kill you, let alone a slightly dim turn signal.

there is.

the lights i sold to ill*tl was one side depo and one side OEM..

i told him before he bought them.

if you park the car facing a wall and have the lights on.. the light pattern on the depo is like a small curve.. ) <-- turn the clock wise..

oem one is more -----

when on the road.. it just scatters out.

but its nothing to kill yourself over it. i didn't mind it.. it was a cheap solution to a replacement.

Don't get LED turn signals if there's no reflector chrome... in daylight, LED's suck... a lot... you can barely notice the reverse lights when their on during the day time.

Also don't get the chrome/blue tinted halogen turn signals, the output is shit on those as well.

well you want to use the OEM lens, and i will see how bright it is after i repaint with the OEM bulbs. i could get the depo inserts if i srew up my OEM inserts, and keep the OEM housing and reflectors, and my aftermarket ballast. i got to see what i can do, you can't just buy the inserts that you black out can you? you got to buy the whole thing right?

hmm

say i get the depe left and right housings, and only take out the inserts and repaint them with the turn signal taped off. then put the new painted depo back into my OEM housing and ditch the depo housing.

i might keep the 1/2 of the depo housing that holds in the lights/ballast and everything and only use the OEM lens for the better light output, cus my OEM 1/2 that holds everything is beat up and nasty.

ill come up with a plan, and get this working

ok this is my plan,

repaint what i have and see if the light out put changes in the turn signal

if it doesn't work for me then,

buy the depo headlights and take them apart, black them out but keep the turn signals chromed, then take the depo inserts out and put the blacked out deop inserts in my OEM housing and seal it all up keeping the OEM housing.

its pretty much a way for me to get my hands on a fresh chromed insert, and use just the insert.

that way i can still have blacked out headlights, but also have chromed turn singals

^^^sounds like you got a plan! good luck!

oh and btw...I machine polished the crap out of my passenger side headlight and it looks 10000000 times better. I didnt think it was leaking because I siliconed the living shit out of both the lights when I put em back together...didnt want to risk having leaks.

good deal, glad to here you polished them it makes a huge difference on appearance. i also need to clean the inside of my lenses which i think is cutting down on light output too. i used a shit load of silicone too and i hope i can get them apart without breaking them haha.

soo yea that what ill be doing this week, redoing headlights. sounds like fun

that Killer chrome kit will work on just about anything if you use it the right way, don't buy a 7 dollar can of "chrome" spray paint from home depo, because it's just sliver paint.

^^^yep, I tried that "chrome" spray bomb stuff...its just really shiny silver paint. No where even close to looking like chrome..lol.

You wont have any probs taking the lights back apart man. I had to redo one of mine due to the inside of the lens being all scuffed and dull. It was one that I had siliconed like crazy..just be patient and try to cut as much of the silicone as possible. Re-heat if necessary.
