did u order the whole kit for ur fogz or did u order replacement bulbs for ur stock headlights??

so on that note,,, what is recommended 4300/6000/8000 K lights... think that 8000k are stock correct!?

I need new lights and cheapest price I have found so far around here is $88.00 per bulb and I don't even know the manufacturer...

If you want replacements check out user name akinaboy on ebay. I got a set of philips 4300k bulbs for 88 bucks shipped.

 

I don't suggest going higher than 6000K, anything more has too much of a blue or purple hue and becomes less useful because you lose visible brightness.

I would wait and see how these Genesis lamps are though they are probably fine. Alternatively, I got a pair off ebay for only $65 shipped and they are nice. Look up user 'intensehid'.

 

4300k is stock
5000k is like midday sun- white brite- good for seeing right ahead of you
6000k is ~natural light~ (similar to the "indoor daylight" desk lamps at 6500k)
blue tint with white- good for picking out road lines and signs in any weather- not as white directly in front of the car, but can see different things and farther than OE-
thats my opinion based on months of 6000k, and testing against other TLs on the road and other cars in general.

 

I want the best lighting for canyon and back road travel at night... roads that have zero external lighting added to aid motorist... you know where hitting a deer or a coyote are more likely than hitting/seeing another car.

 

The best option for that scenario would be to get some 4300K HIDs in both the lows and fog lights. Also, if there are alot of deer you should get the subsonic tabs that stick to your front and alert the animals.

 

I found a great display of color choices at Lowes. They have flourescent bulbs in 4-5-6 and 6500 k on display and suggested uses. I put a 6500 "daylight" in the desk lamp and the stairway, easy on the eyes, and matches the actual daylight that comes thru the solartube skylight.
For more white on the road directly in fornt of you, I would use 5000k Kaixen (brand) and as other member suggested- the sonic deer alert/deer defenders ultrasonic sound generators that stick under the bumper~ $20 bucks-they are lifesavers, literally.
The only downside is they need 25-35mph airflow to really be working good. In the mountain fog I wasnt always going that fast. Then I found one that hooks to the battery and has regular mode that annoys pets, children and many animals to alert them to your presence, and deer country mode where it double times the action. A switch to operate it is optional- otherwise battery hookup- key on- operated. Check online- maybe jcwhitney or similar has them now- about 30 dollars.

 

what is the bulb code for TL's D2R or HIR ?

 

D2R is the code. But, if you take 01tl's advice, you will be purchasing D2C bulbs. These will fit. They will not have ceramic paint around the tube, increasing luminous output, and these are manufactured with diamond somehow. Not too informed on that part.
As far as color goes, I have installed 5000K bulbs on a car that I sold, and the color was amazing. The cleanest white I've seen. I ordered a pair of Kaixen 5000k bulbs from the sponsored section of the black market from excelerate. I should be receiving them tomorrow. Like you, I am more concerned with light output than color, so I chose the 5000K. The user above (AZP-TL) is correct on your scenario, though. 4300K (stock) have a little more light than 5000k. If you choose these, go with the D2S for more light, owing to no ceramic paint, like before.

 

I looked at Excelerate's www and I can not seem to find anything about bulbs on the site. How did you purchase yours?

is this a good deal? seems a bit less price wise over the $150 from exelerate... from what i can tell the Kaixen are korean made so no real advantage from this point.

Well, I think that its really just a crap shoot with a pair for $50. Asian HID bulbs are supposed to be of high quality. Kaixen is noteworthy. What about that ebay kit. I can't see ebay from here, so just be sure to do your research.

Korea gets tons of money pumped into it from other countries and has now become a techno place-
Kaixen is the International Research Facilty on Lighting, and holds several patents on the coolest new way of doing things.
I like mine- they were worth it
I cant imagine real HID bulbs- like Phillps are good- going for under 80 a pair on a great day!!
I bought cheapie hi beams and now have to get good ones.

I would stick with Philips. I bought some new 6k Philips replacement bulbs and they are wonderful. Light up the road better than stock.

 

International research facility on lighting? I'm sure they make good products but I don't think they are the global leader. I never heard of them prior to coming to this site and I can tell you Philips and Osram are much larger corporations that specialize in all types of lighting.

 

I have seen them on other forums. They have been around for a while. Philips is a Conglomerate. I work with their medical equipment and some of it sucks. Does that mean that all of it sucks? Does it mean their lights suck? They are not better just because they are bigger and more commonplace due to good business models and branding. Ever seen stock prices of a well valued small stock when a large conglomerate is planning buying it out? It drops.
Korean bulbs are well known for good quality. Even if they aren't as well branded in the US

 

yes- Kaixen Reseach Facility- big money pours in from foreign aid and they put the modern research center there. From that- the natual thing to do after getting several patents on new technology, is to make your own factory next door= selling your design.

Look up ther home website and have a Korean friend translate it for you (one member here was able to do it himself) or the translated amercan information version.

I dont sit here making up random claims, I only give product opinions/feedback on things I currently have on my own car or have used in the past. My background as a pilot-racer-tech-service writer-manager-parts dept...everything in takes to run a shop, and know about checking companies out that want to sell my parts.
The internet has made it much faster.
Josh from Excelerate first told me about these- knew the differances and got me doing my own research. I went with their 6000k for my old eyes- they pick out the lines and signs which really helps me at night.
Of course this is all just my opinion based on research and experience. You are all free to guess and wonder until you try something yourself.
Some members like a closer to OE color light so they use 5000k

Tom will the D2C have any dowfall in output vs the D2R

 

The output will be better. I put mine in. 5000k D2Cs. Compared to stock, they warm faster and have no yellow. They are pretty nice. I put up the pics in the kaixen thread.
D2R has the ceramic paint on the tube, so to cut down on glare, the D2C does not. Ever noticed how you wish you would see sign reflections a bit better, these will accomplish that. Mind you, I have used mine for 2 days, Tom has used his for MUCH longer.

 

I have no knowledge of this paint on part of the bulb-it was my ~belief~ only the mounting tab differ and the bulbs are a direct replace for 2 types of D2 series

All I know is they work great. They need about 100 hours of ON time to get them burned in and running right.
It would be great to hear from someone who tried the 5 and 6 to compare

 

I will have pics up on Monday. I got my new headlight housing in and LED Signal bulbs and LED High High beams also.

 

Awesome I would love to see the LED bulbs.

They are direct replacement for D2S, the tab differs and D2S will fit in a D2R housing, but not vice versa. So, D2C will fit both just like D2S. D2R was deveoloped for reflctive housings, and D2S for projector style housing. The ceramic paint was to reduce scatter/glare.

See the black area before the burner capsule on the tube. That is the ceramic paint I'm talking about.

 

Will there still be that cutoff or will I see more of a glare.

 

Actually, I notice the cutoff even more clearly, but there is a bit more scatter (glare). You will definitely have the nice cutoff though. I am all for not blinding oncomers, so i am a bit scrutinous of the cutoff too. You will love them.

 

I love Cutoff on our TSX. But my TL seem a lil brighter with the 5000ks. Kinda excited about installing the 6000ks now. Does anyone have instructions on taking off the headlight housing.
