Gas Mileage?!?!?!?!
Gas Mileage?!?!?!?!
Hmm i believe the window sticker for this car said 19 in the city and 24 on the highway if im not mistaken. I filled up my tank last night and have 45 miles on this tank. Yet i only have 3/4 of a tank left. So in a 17 gallon tank i used 4.25 gallon and travelled 45 miles = 10.588 miles to the gallon. My dads viper gets better mileage than that. Maybe its just that i only have 250 miles on my car and its not broken in yet but this is gettin expensive. Any info will help.
Damn... you must have a heavy foot!!
During my break-in period (I went 1k miles) I was averaging 24-26mpg. Once the break-in was over and I started really driving it was around 23-24mph... which is where I am now. Occasionally I'll have a tank over 25.5mpg. FYI... I drive about 95% highway. When you mix in some city driving I'm around 23mpg....

actually i havent taken it on the highway yet and i only drive side streets to work and very minimally haul ass. I hope my milegae gets better. When do you suspect that my break in period is over, and if my milegae doesnt get significantly better should i take it to my dealer?
Putting that small amount in isn't very accurate, because the auto shut-off feature on the gas pump may cut out at slightly different times, so you can't be sure that you filled it the EXACT same amount you did before. Secondly, if that was dealer gas in the tank, you can count on the fact that it wasn't REALLY full.
In other words, you need a larger sample size. Run the tank way down, and then check it over 2-3 tanks. Reset your trip meter at each fillup, to ensure you get an accurate miles figure.
Also, if your trips are VERY short (e.g. 2 miles on cold engine), and only on heavily-traveled city streets, then expect the mileage to be somewhat lower than even the city quote. I'd still expect slightly higher than 10mpg, though (like 14-15).
With mine, I get about 19-20mpg on all city driving (4-5 mile trips, stuck in traffic, AC on), and about 28-30 on all highway. Back road FL trips get me about 24-26mpg.
IIRC, the sticker said 19/29.

Driving 45 miles and correlating that to a quarter tank of gas used is not an accurate way to gauge MPG at all.
Drive this full tank, then go refill till you hit the 1st click. Drive that tank till you refill again, and stop again at the first click. Try for the same exact pump to be even more accurate. Then divide miles driven by gallons used, and you'll get a much more accurate reading.
I for one driving a mix of highway and city in NYC get about 21-22mpg with Climate Control (AC) on all the time which is around what I used to get with my 4 banger Accord. This engine just needs to work that much less to suit my driving style. The most I got was close to 30mpg on a long drive to Connecticut and back hitting triple digits at times; Not bad at all.

I've been averaging about 23 mpg, and lean a little more towards city driving. DAMN the Capitol Beltway's stop and go traffic. I have about 2k miles on my car, and I pretty much drive in SS all the time. Plus I like to go very fast most of the time, and I tend not to shift gears until about 6000RPMs at the least. So one might say I work my engine hard. To that I say, "this is why I bought the Type S."
The ONLY way to get an acurate mileage figure is to:
1- fill the tank
2- reset trip odometer
3- drive until the low fuel light
4- fill tank
5- jot down gallons to the nearest tenth(the number below the price on the pump).:p
6- divide the trip odometer miles by the gallons you just injected.
I'm sure you knew all this, but one thing you have to keep in mind is that the fuel gauge is not linear by nature. About the only thing I trust about automotive fuel guages is that they are not that acurate.

nah....the best way is to get the average of 3...
here are some tips:
not necessary to drive until low fuel light...coz low gas in tank is pretty dangerous and harmful for ur car...
full tank of gas until second time rejects...
i drive mostly city...so i get around 22-24 depends on traffic...
take 1mpg off with A/C on...
for hwy can avg over 30mpg all the way...but i just can't keep off the foot and drive no less than 85mph...so i don't get a gd mileage for hwy too...heh

Took a trip recently to Nashville for the Titans Preseason opener,
29.8 Miles to the gallon By the time I had filled up, I was below the E mark and had over 420 miles.
In the city get about about 18 mpg, depending on how i drive it. Sometimes I like a little quickness, others I just mosey on.
And yes, there is over 3 gallons left at E.
Every time i fill up AFTER the light comes on, most every time i fill up with 14.3 gallons. That leaves over 3 gallons still in it.

i filled up completely this morning and drove 10 miles and the needle didn't move at all, I must be getting a zillion miles per gallon...
kidding aside, I get 19-20 in the city, whether I run 89 or 93 octane. so i run 89 with 0 problems.

This is an often discussed topic.
I used to travel over 40,000 miles per year. I always averaged at least 30 mpg for each tank on the highway, sometimes going as high as 33 mpg and sometimes as low as 27 mpg. In town, I averaged about 23 mpg with some hwy, some steady 45 mph, and some stop and go driving. I have sinced switched jobs and moved. I now drive about 5 miles a day round trip to work w/ about a dozen lights each way. I now get about 15 mpg. I don't accelerate hard at ever light (i.e., I don't floor it) but I do rev to about 3500 to 4000 rpm before shifting using the SS. If it drove a little easier and just left it in full auto mode, I'm sure I'd do better but not much.
