Garage Kept??

Other than the absence of the occasional gift from a bird or hailstorm, what are the benefits of keeping your car in a garage? I just bought a house with a 2-car garage (the last house didn't have one) and I was considering converting it to a game room, but I'm undecided. What do you think?

Peace of mind is another reason, you don't have to worry about any fools jackin your HID's. Finish stays "brighter" since it is not exposed to the elements 24x7, easier to keep clean, you'll also have a nice warm place to install your mods. Just my $.02

Your waxed finish will last twice as long.

insurance is another

rates are lower for car's kept in a garage as opposed to the street.

That and depending on where you live, not having to scrape the car off in the morning a a huge plus..bringing in groceries what have you....

Where do you live? After the storm we had yesterday, it sure was nice to have a clean and warm(heated garage) car to wake up to. I think anyone who lives in the snow belt can appreciate this.

yup...my a-spec stays inside a garage when it's not being used. Has never spent the night outside. My car does tend to get dirty very quickly (ABP is murder for that), but if I take my car to the local hand wash place, the car looks brand new again. All in all, it definitely holds it's shine if not exposed to the outside world...

Let's say you just waxed, polished, clay-bar(ed) and did all the other detailing stuff to your car. Now it starts to rain but stop late that night. Leave it in the garage and don't worry about Mother Nature undoing all the work you just put in to it.

My girlfriend and I wind up taking her CR-V out for the weekends unless I', going somewhere by myself or it's an arran that' not for her.

Another nice thing is not having to worry about frost on your windows this time of year!

Not to mention that a house with a garage is more desirable than one without one to most people when you go to sell your house again.

wax lasts, shine lasts, if you have custom mods dont have to worry getting it stolen, interior condition lasts, can wash your car anytime without worry if its gonna rain.

Biggest consideration is where you live. If you live in or near NYC or NJ, keep the garage so you don't have to worry about HID theft. If you live somewhere else but not in a good neighborhood, consider keeping atleast one garage. If you live in a well to do area, say in Florida where there's no snow, go for the game room and wax the car frequently.

Hmmm

in Florida I would be more concerned about the sun fading the interior -

Definately keep the garage.

Like the posts above, it's awesome when you are working on your car without having to worry about getting frostbite, heat stroke, or various bugs or insundry neighborhood kids.

that is why i have a 3 car garage.

Iggy...I'm in VA Beach, so there's not much snow (maybe once every 5 years we get some that actually sticks) and I haven't heard of any HID thefts around here...but know my luck, I would be the first...

SC...I hear what your saying about ABP...they're definitely hard to keep clean....If I decide to keep the garage, it'll be due to the fact that I always trying to keep that sparkling glimmer (that turns heads after a wash/wax job) as long as possible and just one little sprinkle takes it all away.

My main concern was keeping my new place as nice as possible and when the boys are hangin' out over here, I would rather have a game room with a bar, beer fridge and a plasma TV (maybe even a pool table) for us, instead of them trashing my living room and kitchen. I keep telling myself that I would get a car cover, but I'm smart enough to know that would get old after about a month.

hey Steph-TLS why dont you just turn part of the basement into a game room? You would be able to have both-garage and a man room.

My house has a carport- roof extension past the side of the house which the car fits into, it's a 60s era bungalow and protects the car from rain or snow but not when the winds is really going nuts.

Actually, the worst thing for your car is sun...next to acid rain. It is the sun that diminishes that 'new car smell', and it is the hardest on the paint.

Your interior stays nicer too.. not exposed to the sun.

you can start it in the morning before work in your pajamas and slippers (but remember to open the garage door after). leave the windows down or cracked, clean the interior no matter what the weather is on your days off. After I came home late at night I always hated the neighborhood cat that slept on my hood because it was warm and left his paw prints all over.

Hey 2003TLS...Southeast Virginia doesn't have many houses w/garage...The only ones that I've seen are in the old historical sections of Norfolk and they're about 80 years old. If I had a basement, I would be ALL OVER IT (I would've never started this thread).

I guess I'll probably end up keeping the garage. This is killing me...I've been in this house for 3 months and I'm already needing a bigger place.

You could always wall off part of the garage since its a 2 car garage and have half of it for a Man's room...not enough room for a pool table, but pleanty for a nice couch and recliner, not to mention a 42 in Plasma ....Thats another option, but it may cut into that moding budget a bit.
