Angry Fuel Gauge AGAIN??????

I filled up my tank last week, the fuel gauge only went to 3/4 full. then went up, then down, kept fluctuating.. I went this weekend to refill, at this point, the low fuel light was glowing for some time, the gauge was on the line just above the E(mpty), and I only filled 14.5 gallons! Either they engineered the float sensor terribly that it never gives u a correct reading, or somebody's f#$ked up... and the fuel gauge was replaced under warranty last august..Oh yeah, it filled up again 3/4 a tank, then went up a lttle bit after 20 minutes, then all the way p, now it sank back down to 3/4 tank again, and NO, im not parked on an incline!

Shoofin, I used to think my fuel gauage was broken when I after I filled up a full tank of gas. It would not even go to the F when it was topped off. I used to keep my car's ignition on with the car off on II and when I stopped doing that, it goes up all the way now. Try it once and see if it works if you already haven't.

I agree. I filled up my tank with the car still on after I had been on Empty for a while. The needle never returned to full untill I got it back to E and shut the car off BEFORE filling the tank. No problems anymore.

I don't know if this helps but I always turn my TL off before refueling.

Give it a try and see what happens.

that's odd. I've never had any fuel gauge problems with my car. The gas light does seem to come on when I still have over 3 gallons of gas still left in the tank, which seems over cautious to me.

I see no problem with filling gas with the key in the II position as long as the engine is not on. If you leave the engine on while filling, that could be a big problem.

mine reads about 7/8 when i fill it all the way up. I can get it to read F if I turn the key on and off a few times, but there is definitely a prob with the gauge...I just dont feel like going back to Acura for it...very annoying though, but as long as I fill up everytime it wont be an issue for me.

I had to have the float sensor in the gas tank replaced in my 2000 Accord V6. But get this, my needle worked, it was only the low fuel light that didn't work! When my car started cutting out on me I knew I had problem. Fortunately I made it to a gas station before the car died. I put 16.5 gallons of gas in my tank without the low fuel light EVER coming on. Hehehe... I think the float worked fine up high, but for some reason it got stuck when it got a certain point and wouldn't go any lower.

It was replaced under warranty and didn't cost me anything.

Hey some people think its a contest to see how much gas they can $qeeze into their tanks. That is bad for the gas tank too!!! Do not do that, when filling up stop pumpin when the pump stops...

Why would anyone ever leave their engine while pumping gas? I was always told to turn off my engine when refueling. Could be something about releasing pressure in the fuel tank, not sure, just know its not good.
