Front Suspension Noise

I've been having this annoying clunking noise when going over small bumps coming from the front suspension. I did a search and a few ppl said that they fixed the problem by replacing the front sway bar end links. I checked mine today (see vid below), and I didnt see any play. In fact all the components of the suspension seemed tight except for the tie rod, though it might be normal (vid below). I did however notice a gap in the sway bar end link which I'm not sure is normal. Could someone confirm?

Is there any thing else that could be causing this clunk? My rear mount definitely needs to be replaced. Could this be the source?

Thanks

I don't think there's supposed to be a gap, it'd be easier if I saw it in person to help you. Perhaps stock shocks are blown?

if you have a bad motor mount fix that first--
many things move when mounts fail!

Beside what everyone else has suggested, I would check your strut mounts.

Change the end links. Mine didn't seem to have any play either but I replaced them anyways and the clunking went away. I always got the noise over small bumps that gave sharp jolts to the suspension. Make sure to buy the Moog end links. The OE ones look puny in comparison.

clunking noise

I've owned five different TL'S, clunking noise comes from your sway bar bushings, change them and noise is gone.

Changing sway bar bushings and/or end links is MUCH easier than changing struts.

I ordered my front, side and rear mounts yesterday. Probably have them installed next weekend. Hopefully this helps with some of the noises.

I'm really hoping to get rid of the hard BANG when putting it in reverse AND when shifting from first to second and third to fourth while the tranny is relatively cold.

Wish me luck!

I just replaced my Sway Bar Bushsings two days ago. I had a creaking noise, and it's now gone. I think thats it's good advice to start with the bushings ( very easy to do) and then the end links. Go from there...and good luck.

I was chasing for a clunking noise for sometime and found my issue. After replacing sway bar end-links, upper control arms and swar bar bushing the issue was the right front radius rod. The nut holds it in place was gone. My problem is now solved.

Front passenger suspension clunking noise

2001 Acura cl.
Fyi.
This will work for the unsolved clunking noise from your front suspension.

I have replaced Front struts, Brake pads and rotors, Lower and upper control arm, Sway bar end links and bushings, Front rear and side motor mounts.
I have had at least 7 different michanics look at my Cl. I've done a complete overhaul of my front suspension and the Clunking noise never stopped. After a 1 year of being deprived of a clunk free smooth running car i decided to try one simple trick. I sprayed WD40 directly on to the strut mount bushings and finally the clunk silenced and pretty much died out. So to make a long story short get yourself some WD40 and saturate the mounts and bushing for a cheap diagnosis, that might be your problem. After doing that i drove the car and i notice a big difference in the ride. Who knew that a $3.79 can of WD40 would save the day. I am going to change out the strut mount parts over the weekend. I will update with results.

Strut mount bushings indeed was the culprit of my annoying clunking sound! At last i can enjoy smooth driving without the feeling that my front end is going to collapse..... Anyone who has a annoying clunking sound coming from your front suspension check your strut mount bushings before you start changing part.
