You cnt base MPG off the needle. You have to do that by how many gallons you have to put back in your tank to fill divided by miles driven

That's not a very exact measurement. Do you use your trip odometer and gas receipt to calculate actual mileage?

mine is the opposite. using fill/ odometer method. if i drive all highway i average 28-30 mpg. the needle moves what seems soo slow. then i drive local, either spirited or mild and it seems like i have a leak compared hwy. i usually get 17 to 20 local. it used to be better but i reset my ECU recently and my gas mileage has gotten noticably worse. anyone have any idea why, i know the computer has to relearn, but its very noticeable. i used to get 20 consistently local. now its almost impossible.

I just filled up today... 19.7 combined city/highway

I admit it's mostly city - and I do get on it quite a bit.

im pumpin 91, i guess i should read the odometer to be more accurate

i guess its cuz i do like 70 on the freeway. which is really fast (gas wise) i try not to push 60.

most the times to not hurt my pockets i do 35 (40 is pushin it) on streets. and i do 60-70 freeway (80 would be pushin it REAL hard for me)

anyone else here drive slow to consume less gas.

also recline your seats back far itll help you relax and drive slow. thats how i drive.

I consistently get 18mpg combined per tank. Yes, they are all freeway miles, but it doesn't help too much when the freeways in San Diego are like parking lots!

i second this question. is resetting the ecu gonna worsen your mpg or did jmal do something to make it worse?

resetting the ecu wont make your mileage drop. what alot are noticing is most likely the new impliment of fuel having to have ethanol in it

MileageDrop

My mileage changes depending what brand of Premium fuel I put the car. As far as the needle, mine isn't accurate at the Full level. Sometimes I fill up and it doesn't make it to the Full line. I filled up yesterday and the needle was still below the full line. I took my son to Football practice this morning and when I started the car it showed over the Full mark. I understand that it's a sensor problem that is common in our 2nd G. Acura's. The fuel guage seems accurate after I drive it 70 miles or so and the low fuel light comes on with about 3/4 gallons left in the tank. After 8 years and 59,000 miles, everything on the car still works perfect. I can't complain about the fuel gauge not always being accurate at the full level. Guess I can accept this flaw.

I'll be driving to Ohio from NC this weekend. (1000 miles round trip) I'll report on my mileage figures when I get back. Last trip doing 80 I got over 30 MPG. Hopefully with the price of gas now, the mileage will just at high this time.

I could get 35mpg going 80mph to 100mph straight even though the car is rated for 29 highway

City I probably get like 15 or 16.

I just took a 1400 mile trip and while doing anywhere from 90mph - 132 mph I averaged 28 MPG but once I cracked down to 84-84mph I got 30. Anyone know what the supercharger does to your mpg?

I'm pretty sure gas mileage (especially highway) is more dependant on your RPMs and your consistency with the accelerator. I usually drive at a constant 80-90 on the freeway if it's not too busy, and I got a combined city-highway of 27. Although, I admit, most of that last tank was highway driving.

Anywho, TLs cruise at like 80 no problem, just set the Cruise Control at 80 and it should be like right on 2000 RPMs. Unless you're going over big hills and stuff like that, the cruise control should keep your engine running very consistently, which I think is what is best for your gas mileage.

I haven't officially measured, but I have been making some road trips lately and getting about 385-410 miles per tank doing about 77mph on cruise with mix of a/c and not using a/c Not bad. I fill up right at or just barely below 1/4 tank left

I drive on the freeway to work everyday and hit IL traffice. My GF lives in downtown Milwaukee. So I do about 80% freeway, 20% city. I'm averaging 30.89 mpg.

That is about 32-33 on the freeway.

with the a/c on and crusing at 75 i can pull 30-31 mpg, depending on how much traffic i get stuck in. Just did this two days ago, VT to RI and that includes stuck in boston traffic with teh a/c still on. But city drving still kills me, usualy with a mix i get 26-27. All city it drops a lot

I dont know how everyone is getting ~28-32 mpg on the highway. My drivings are 95% highway and i get about ~19-22 mpg. I also notice that I HAVE to be doing 80+ for me to get those numbers. If i cruise at 60-70 mph, than i will be getting close to 16-17 mpg. Go figure

Replace your spark plugs (NGK Factory or Iridiums) and clean your valves and injectors (CD-2).

I just replace the factory plugs with iridium ones. I use Seafoam every 6-8k. I dont think its my car. I really think its the gas around here (NJ/PA/NY). And since they started to use ethanol, my gas mileage has gotten worst.

On my trip last weekend to Ohio from Western NC I averaged 28MPG cruising at between 75/85 in 85 to 98 degree heat with the Air running. Drove 998 miles with little or no traffic slow downs. 99TL Navi. with 59,000 miles on it. Note: Before I changed to the Yokohama's Avids it got over 30 MPG with the almost worn out original Michelins on the highway. I have noticed a decrease in gas mileage overall since changing tires of about 2/3 MPG in city and highway driving. The Yoko's are great handling tires but noisy on the road. Lots of whining noise compared to the Michelins. If I had it to do over, I would have spent the extra $250.00 and bought the Michelins again. Used different gas from Shell Premium to less expensive stations.
Note: I got over 30 MPG with the Michelins but wasn't running the Air. This was in cooler weather back in Feb. of this year. Guess that makes a difference if we want to compare Apples to Apples.

My 02 tl-p averaged 20-22 mpg in 80% city and 20% highway with engine oil 5w20
and with mobil syn 5w30 it drops to 18-19mpg but the idling is smoother ......I know
engine oil grade has an effect to mileage ......
Oh my last long trip was last year and averaged 28-30mpg cruising at 85 miles/hour
with mobil syn 0w20 ........

I had a chance to do a great experiment with almost a full tank of gas and 99% freeway driving...

I filled up in the morning, and jumped on the freeway to a distant location for a business meeting... the destination was pretty much right off the freeway... Afterwards, I jumped back in my car and commuted back home...

Almost used a full tank of gas... Filled up when I got home and calculated my mileage...

I got 30MPG... and that was going about 70... I used the sports-shift to keep the tranny from any unnecessary downshifting...

In my '03 TLS, I get 30+ mpg on the highway using 92 octane ethanol blended gasoline. I cannot say that I notice any difference (neither performance nor mileage) between fuels with and without ethanol.
