Found a GPS unit under my steering wheel

I was taking apart my dash to get to the AV inputs behind my radio and found a GPS unit that wasn't part of my pioneer nav unit. I can only assume it was from the finance company so I yanked it out. Anyone else ever find one of them in their car?

Scary. Someone is coming to get you...

Why would finance company want to track your car?

Finance co.- ? Never heard of that. Are you certain it was a GPS? Does everything still work?

If its a leased vehicle it could be to track actual mileage driven- to combat those who disconnect the odometer~

Or for loss prevention- it was lojack type device
Or the cops are following you~

It had a GPS antenna as well as a gsm antenna and also said gps on it. It's supposed to be used to track your car if your car is to be repo'ed.

Did you buy the car used? If so, perhaps it's a boomerang (or the US equivalent - that's what it's called in Canada) tracking device - for theft recovery.

gps

Some companies that will finance people with not so great credit will install these devices that will actually "kill" the ignition if the payments aren't made, making the vehicle immobile and easy to repo, it is against the law to disconnect them only if you are the one who is financing the car, if you are the next owner, then you are safe....only know this cuz I used to be a repo guy.......

I'll take pictures when I get home. I was thinking about hooking up a 12v battery to it and throwing it in the dumpster.

Good idea, in fact I'd find a container ship about to leave port and throw it on board. The insurance co. will think the car has been stolen and shipped overseas!!! LOL
