Talking Fixed Most Of My Rattles

I bought my 99 TL about a month and a half ago. It had 29,000 miles and absolutly NO rattles. From all the driving I have done lately(THE CAR IS SOO FUN TO DRIVE) three rattles became apparient.

Moonroof rattles - guess this happens to a lot of cars
the open up console next to the cup holder
some rattle in my driver door

I got a couple new plastic peices for my console from the acura dealer and that fixed the console rattle
I took apart my entire driver door and tried to fix the horrible rattle. Turns out the rattle was a dying door jam sensor(turns on the interior light when door is open) I just couldn't believe how much noise that a stupid little switch could make... UNBELIEVEABLE!!!

I have not fixed the moonroof rattle though... any suggestions??? I really cant stand it and am about to take it to the acura dealer but I would like to fix it myself I someone could give me a few pointers.

I still hear some strange clunk noise in the rear end when I accelerate while taking a turn. I think it is a dying strut or something. Any ideas?? I will probably take it to the acura dealer and have them check out the rear end and fix whatever is making the clunk noise but I would rather fix it myself so I can use the money I save to get a membership at this site!!!!!!!!!!

maybe we can all team up together to fix them. For a while I just turned up the music but I like to listen to the badass moter and the vtec

I know i'm not the only one with annoying rattles so LETS HEAR YOUR RATTLING TL GRIPES!!!!!!!!!

hello all:

i also have bit of moon roof issue...but it seems reasonable...the moon roof sorta creaks when i go slowly over a large speed bump...sounds more like the car frame "stretching"...not really a rattle...OK

HOWEVER, i have recently noticed a rattle coming from the rear passenger window...when i go over minor bumps/potholes while driving at regular-fast speeds, the rear passenger window seems to rattle (sounds like some one cracking a knuckle)...thing is, the window does not always make this (minor/single) rattle...some drives are totally quiet, while during other rides, the rattle happens intermittently...problem seems to go away if the rear passenger window is either rolled down a bit of if i roll the window down and up...overall, not a major problem (i hope)...is it "normal" (i think i heard similar "rattles" driving in another TL as well as in a Merc Benz 500 class !)...your input would be appreciated...THx

The sunroof rattling is caused by the rubber strip around the roof rubbing against the body of the car. This is a known issue to Acura and they have a fix for it at the dealer. Its a clear plastic tape strip of teflon that you put around the sunroof opening. The rubber doesnt make the sound anymore! Guaranteed to work because i had the problem on my 2002TL and the dealer put the tape on and that was that. (i asked him why Acura doesnt just put it on at the factory and he said practically all the TLs end up coming back for this serivce upgrade.) The tape strip cant cost Acura more than $1 per car, so i guess Acura would rather have customers get annoyed to save the buck!

Is there a different sunroof rattle?

My sunroof is rattling now too after only 1 and an half months of having the car. But my question is that what 2002 seems to have described is different than what I am hearing because when I open or tilt the sunroof the squeeks go away which leads me to believe that it isn't the seal around the sunroof but something actually in the mechanism itself...any input?

Buddha, Thats exactly the fix you need. Of course when you open the window, the rubber seal is no longer touching the car and thats why the noise goes away!!!! (sorry for all the yelling with those exclamation points - its not you, its my frustration with all the creaks and groans my new car makes- i gotta tell you that i wont buy another Acura again because of it.) The sound occurs when the window is closed, and the rubber is rubbing against the sunroof cutout. Trust me, go to the dealer and get the teflon strip. They will know exactly what you are talking about and given what the service manager told me, the dealers ought to just put the tape on when they prep the car for delivery, but this way, they wouldnt get to charge back Acura for the service repair when you bring the car in after buying it! Totally lame if you ask me. Save your sanity, go to Acura first thing in the a.m. You will be happy.

More of a clicking noise

I don't have any rattles coming from my car but I notice that when I do a cold start in the morning, I will hear a faint but audible clicking noise coming from the engine area. It almost seems like the drive belt is making that noise. Anyone with any idea what I"m talking about and solutions to the problem?

I had a clattering noise come from my accessory belt area. For me, it only seemed to happen when the car was warm and the A/C compressor was off (not under load). Turns out it was a noisy idler pulley. Replaced under warranty and no more clatter. I've only seen one other person on this board with the same problem, but at least the dealer fixed it.

Faint clicking can also be noisy lifters. When you first start up, the top of the engine is most starved for oil and you can get some clatter from the valvetrain.

you resurected an old post and brought it back to life! LOL

UPDATE: moonroof noises are still there I just ignore them
The clunk sound that I heard while taking turns turned out to be a broken rear sway bar link. It costed around $17 to fix and took 5-10 minutes to fix.
The console still makes rattles and for about 3 months I took it out completely. I put it back in after I missed having an armrest.

About a month ago I started hearing a rattle in the passenger side front door. I just slap the door every once in a while to make it go away.

Since I didn't buy the car new, and since I have no warranty I can't complain. Whenever I buy a new car however I will be on the dealers ass to fix any/all rattles that appear.

I had a rear window rattle but it turns out it was some antanae wire running through the ceiling headliner. My rear wheel clunking was a loose endlink, that thing that looks like a dumbell. I dont have any others but I think when I have the tima and money to replace my speakers I will dyno mat the whole car.

My Moonroof rattles too. Not the actual glass part that is squeaking but the interior shade.
It is fine when fully closed. However, when I have it pushed back (a little, or all the way) there is a rattle somewhere in the headliner. Anyone here experience this problem???
