Fitment issue: SRI on Type-S, why?

Does anyone know why intake manufacturers are very specific to state their short ram intakes will not fit a Type-S?

I mean, why will a SRI fit a non-Type-S but not a Type-S?

Side question: I've read that Accord V6 intakes will generally fit with "some modification." What is this all about?

The TB is in a different position. So a SRI for TL-P is too long for TLS

Thanks.

But, could you *cut* or shorten a SRI for a TL-P so that it'll fit a TL-S?

Have one already.

I was hoping for more of a "growl" with my CAI. In my 2000 Eclipse GT (V6) I had a SRI. I really liked the "beefy" sound it gave the V6.

Well AEM said they don't make CAI for my 99TL. Well it fits fine after you move the horn over. So don't always listen to those dumbasses. Accord V6 98-02 will only fit TLP, not TLS

My CAI came in two pieces and I use it sometimes as a SRI. AEM CAI for TLP is basically a SRI with an extention.

AEM doesn't make SRI for TLS because you don't see any gains over the stock box.

If you cut your CAI for the bypass, you can discard the bottom half and use it as a SRI, but you won't see any performance gain....not that you would have notice with just the CAI anyways. SOOO basically you can make your TL-S AEM CAI into a SRI.

SRI for the TLP won't fit a TLS mainly because the tube diamater are different.

TL-P/Accord V6 is 2.75 while the TL-S is 3.

Yeah, I was thinking about just cutting my CAI into a "modified" SRI. Problem is, if I don't like the sound of the "new" intake, I'm screwed. (BTW, I don't have the bypass.)

Bonus, though, is cleaning the filter will be MUCH easier.

part of the sound difference is from DOHC, the tl is only SOHC

I guess that could be part of it...

So then changing to a SRI may not even give me the sound I'm searching for...

You won't be screwed.....if you don't like it as a SRI, there is a coupler hose that should have came with the CAI (or maybe with the Bypass).....you use it to connect the two part CAI back together...... Even if it wasn't the sound you were looking for, it louder then CAI at VTEC.

How so?

I mean "sound" is very subjective to whomever is doing the listening...

It is subjective, just try it out and see if YOU like it. If you don't like it, you can go back to CAI. Way I see it, you don't have anything to lose.

I have both CAI and SRI, and I think SRI sounds better.
