First Tranny Went today.

Yup, check engine light came on today (while everything still seemed smooth). Took it into the dealer immediately and found out that my tranny is failing... They gave me a TSX as a loaner car and the tranny is expected to be replaced by Tuesday of next week. This sux... I think pretty soon, I'll be selling mine and getting a new car. So stay tuned at the black market section... may have some parting out going on soon.

Anyway, this site has been great to me... lots of love and lots of help from some very knowledgeable people! I'll keep you all updated tho of whatever happens...

that's what exactly I thought after my first Tranny blew. I was looking for a new car while my TL was in the shop, but after I got my car back the next week, I felt in love with it all over again.

Plus there's no car this good at this price range on the market anyways.

I know... Although they gave me a TSX; pretty agile and nifty, but I miss my car already. To tell the truth, I'm still contemplating...

yup just can't seem to part with it...i'm at 30,500 miles and although no check engine lights have gone on, i have been feeling the tranny jerking esp. in 2nd and 3rd gear at around 40 mph just cruising sometimes...i made my appt and i'm going to have it checked to see what's wrong...just curious, how many miles do you have right now being that it's your first tranny failure and up til how many miles are we covered? i also heard that 3 tranny failures will denote the car as a lemon and entitled to new car...not that itd be easy to part with the 2nd gen tls anyways...

the tl has a 7 year 100k warranty on its tranny. and the 3 tranny = lemon isnt exactly true. each state has different laws about that. check with your state to find out what your lemon laws are

Then quit reading the posts. Nine out of ten TLs do not/will not have a problem.

If you can't take the tension, then sell the car. Simple.

You guys are very thoughtful. Thanks. My car now has just a bit over 63k and it went on me. To be honest, I really love my car and want to keep it because I have had lots of fun with it; however, I have recently read another post about a tranny blowup while the driver was on the freeway... Just the thought of that kills every bit of my intention of keeping the car. I don't want that to happen to me, because if it does, I'll end up with even more losses and have nothing on hand to sell or trade in. This time, I got away with it and the tranny didn't really cause any damage while it went awya, but it's the possibility of it going out on me in the future.

FSTTYMS1: The dealer called me yesterday and told me that one of my engine mounts have broken. Potentially, what kind of issues can this problem cause? The dealer wants to charge me $170 for the new mount installed... Is it worth it? The reason why I am asking is that if it does not cause too much problems, I'll just consider trading the car in and save on the $170. Any recommendations? Thanks a bunch!

pimpravi had the same problem of his mount being broken. they wanted somehting like $500 for parts and labor. the only thing that happens is when u hit the gas you will feel the engine/tranny moving (kind of like a big block v8 moving when u hit the gas). nothing too major but wouldn't recommend driving like that for a long time.

he ended up paying less than two bills for the mounts compared to what acura wanted.

My transmission (and ECU) was replaced 2 weeks ago at 34K miles. It's working much better now - no slipping. I'll continue to be cautiously optimistic.

Was the replacement genuine Acura part? Because my dealer is offering me 160-170 for genuine part... So that would be considered pretty good deal?

they replcaed his with a genuine part but for 160-170 i think its well worth it. you might only be paying like $30 more than an independent shop.

if its bad (which it probably is, they dont seem to last long) the best time to have it done is while its at the dealer getting the tranny replaced.

if your going to turn around and sell teh car right away then i wouldnt waste the money

What kind of damage can it cause if I don't replace it and decide to keep the car?

You should have it replaced it they said it is broken. It will cause other parts to break, loose, ripping out hoses, and performance is degraded; unless you are trading it in. Definitely fix it if you are selling the car privately.

Brakejob, you know the rules...no whinning, no personal expression, no acura bad talks. Acura problems are just normal tear and wear...live with it. No cars are problem free. Tell us what's good about acura only. The bad ones, keep it in your butt. Just take it ez, save some money, and pay for it when they ask you to pay. Alright dude.

Inspire: I guess you are just the unlucky 1 out of 10. Looks like no other ones have problem with tranny. I feel you pain; sorry to hear that.

it can lead to other mounts wearing out, rougher idle (car will shake more) and down the road could lead to more severe failures (of different parts due to the engine movement so much)

You're back! How do you like your new ride? Any pix yet? Yeah, as you've previously read, my tranny went down on me three days ago. And as all the other members suggested, I may just take my chances and keep the car for a little longer... worries...
