First Oil Change

First Oil Change
When did you guys do your first oil change? I got a letter from Acura that states the first scheduled oil change isn't until 7500 miles
Unless you drive in "rough" conditions, in which case it would be 3750. I have 3200 on mine and was planning on getting it done this weekend.
Just curious when you guys did yours and if I should wait or go ahead and get in done.
Thanks guys,
Aman

Just do it yourself with Mobil 1 after 7500 miles. I am going do it myself. Mine is almost reaching 7500.
Unless you want to spend $100 for a 7500 miles service at the dealer. Their 7500 service is nothing more than a regular oil change with some visual inspection under your hood like toping off washer fuild.
Anyone knows what part of the car does the dealer lube?

If you do the oil changes yourself don't forget to pick up a bag of those replacable one-time use washer things from your service dept.
Oh and it only cost me $23 for my 7500 oil change

They can't cost much but I think you can only get them from the dealer. There are the pressure lock crushable washers. And if you take your car to a third party oil change place give them a new one and tell them not to reuse the old one

I just follow the 3,750 rule in the owners manual, AND I use the 5W-20 oil recommended (not the crap the dealer trys to force on you). That oil is both recommended in the book and is listed on the "oil filler" cap.
If you are in Houston (or anywhere in Texas), the 3,750 is what you want. The only exception would be if you do 90% or more on the hiway (long road trips, etc), all the time.
Either do the change yourself, or at the dealer, don't go to Jiffy lube, or other like kind quick change,,,they use only "used" dirty oil. Toyota is already deneying engine failure claims here in Houston for people using Jiffy Lube; I would suspect Honda would too.
Good Luck

"used " dirty oil?
Are you being serious or just taking a jab a jiffy lube. I have always used the quick stop places. I would think if they used dirty oil they would get called to the matt on it. WOuldn't that be illegal?

Well I have free service for 2 years so I wouldnt be spending anything on it.
I was just curious if I should waste my time getting it done now or if I should just wait. After my 2 yrs is up I will be doing it myself, but intill then I dont want to waste my money or time when I can just drop it off and get it done for free.

If you buy the oil filter from the dealer, they will give you a washer. If not, just ask them for it. They should not charge you seperately for it. All the oil filters I bought has a washer taped to it.

That sucks if that is true about the quick Lube places!
I heard that if you have a new vehicle, you should change the oil after the first 1000 miles when the break-in period is over? Then resume your recommended schedule.
Is this correct????

Just to let you know, I spoke with my Acura guy. He says Acura puts a special additive in the oil and they actually do not want you to change the first oil under 3000 miles. Just an fyi.
