Exclamation FIRST GENERATION TL OWNERS HELP!!!!MY CAR WOULD NOT START TODAY!!!!!!!!!

..today i came out , and proceeded to leave for work. when i turn the ignition, the car did not start. i was mortified! i have never had anything go wrong with my car. the dash lights came on and radio but i just heard this ticking sound like it wanted to start but for some reason could not. anyone know what the problem may be? i live rather far from my nearest acura dealer. the tow guy wanted 175 to tow it to the dealer. i decided to let him tow it around the corner to the neighborhood shell station. oh my god, i nearly lost it when i saw it on the back of the tow truck being dragged, my car is lowered 2 inches, so you can imagine how messed up it looked, it looked so helpless... i feel horrible. my car goes to the dealer for everything including oil changes. i just had it serviced so i know its nothing major. i am hearing i may just need a new starter.
....to make me feel even worse my poor car has not even been looked at yet and its 1:30 in the afternoon and it is in the custody of these half wit guys who i really do not trust. i compromised to save a buck , because i do not know what the tab will be, but now i regret it. everyone pray for me please!!! i love my car and am a wreck here at work not knowing what is wrong....please do not get on me to bad for taking my car to a gas station for this. i am suffering enough already

From one first gen owner to another, I wish you the best of luck. I would have shelled out the dough to go to an Acura/Honda specialist. Man, there could be a million things that would make a car not start. A ticking noise huh? I always associated that with a dead battery or faulty starter, the two most obvious choices. Your battery may have enough juice to get the dash and radio going, but not turn over the engine. As for the starter, they are one of the first parts to go. Good luck and keep us first geners posted!

Time to sign up for AAA, much cheaper if you need a tow.

Good luck with it.

Usually ticking sound means dead (weak) battery. I think it will be okay. The sound is the relay kicking in. I've had that happen to a few cars.

Did you have the tow truck guy try to jump start it?

Well it could be two things. The battery, which is week but still, has enough juice to play the radio. The starter needs allot of juice to crank the engine over. Second the starter could have gone bad. Either one of them is not too much to get fixed. Battery you could do yourself and if you are good with tools starter is not that bad either.

Hey man, this happened to me once before. Make sure that your in Park and not in Drive..... I turned off my car without putting it in park, and the next time I went to start it, the lights on the dash came on, but it wouldn't even begin to start. I then noticed that it was in drive. Man did I feel like a dipsh*t. Anyways, good luck man!

97slammedTL, don't worry. God's got your back. Just don't forget to thank him when this is all over with. I agree with the other, it's probably the battery or starter. Everything will be fine. [b]HAVE FAITH MY BROTHER!![b]

I thought that Acura's roadside assistance is supposed to tow your car to the nearest dealer. Free of charge.

This happend quite a bit on my 1st gen TL, due to either dead battery and loose battery connections.

Add Emergency Road Serv to your auto insurance policy. They could have reimbursed
you for some if not all of the tow depending on the amount of coverage selected.
