Finally Blew my Tranny!!!

Yup judgement day is here sooner than I anticipated. It started last night and this mourning just went to hell. It would not even let me get out of first gear. They said it would take about 2-3 weeks. Its a 2000 tl. Got a Doge Stratus which pisses me off big time. For those of you that have had it replaced whats the usual procedure and length that it takes. Oh well gonna be driving a POS for a while.
PEACE

Considering YOUR tranny went out, the Stratus technically could not be a POS.....

They had our car four or five days, I can't remember exactly. I also can't remember what they gave us, but it wasn't any better than a Stratus. Obviously this was my wife's TL being fixed, because if it was my TL and I had to drive the POS they gave us, I WOULD remember exactly how long I had to drive it and what it was I was driving.

OMG, that's exactly what was happening to my TL. I could not get it out of first unless I threw it in N and back to D. Happened twice and got rid of car. Hope all works out for you bro!

The actual work only took a day. It took 5 days for them to get the tranny from Acura.

They are very tight lipped about the problem.

That is what stood out to me as well. They did not give me any problems about replacing the tranny, and were more than willing to do it, but when I asked what the problem was, they didn't give me an answer. At the time, I thought nothing of it, I was just happy they were going to fix it without hassling me, but I thought it odd for them to be so cooperative when they claimed they weren't sure what was wrong with it.

I guess they are taking the position that if they are cooperative, nobody will complain and it will keep any bad publicity to a minimum. That is fine for those under warranty, which mine was, however, I still have a '99 TL OUT of warranty, and if this problem arises in it, and if they say it will cost me anything out of my pocket, I WILL NOT be so agreeable.

I buy Honda's and Acura's for their RELIABILITY. I understand that even the best have their bad days, but this has moved beyond the point of statistical anomaly. There is obviously a problem here.

I totally agree with you 2_tl_owner...Acura should put out a recall on this...I'm surprised that no body has filed a lawsuit against Acura for not recalling this KNOWN problem and fixing it. I guess Acura is figuring it is cheaper to replace trannys under warranty then to recall all trannys and have to fix/change them all.

We only had 20,000 miles on our '01 TL when we had the tranny replaced.

As far as the recall, my guess is a recall would be entirely too expensive, because they are not replacing a part, they are replacing an entire transmission, and even then, we don't know if the new tranny is going to solve the problem.

It will be interesting to see how the rebuilt trannys that are replacing bad ones hold up. We traded in our '01 TL on a new MDX, so I will not know how the new tranny holds up. Darn it!

out of curiosity..??

What are the driving habits of these poor souls who's tranny gave up the biscuit...???
Did they play/drive hard (race a lot..) or was it under "normal"
driving conditions..??
..not saying we should always be - "Driving Miss Daisy" here...!!
But I think Acura/Honda knows how to build a tranny, after all the pro-racing experience they have...

The dealer really may not know what happened to your tranny. They may not have even opened it up. Just replaced it.

I'm wondering if Acura even knows what's wrong with these tranny's. You would think the replacements would be fixed but people drop those too!

My wife drove the '01 TL, and she does not drive "Hard". She does not "Jump" off of a redlight and does not stomp the accelarator. Her driving SHOULD NOT have caused a problem for the tranny.

With that being said, this is a 3.2L V6 engine, and it was built to MOVE! 0-60 around 7 secs and tops out around 140. This car was built to enjoy, so there is no excuse for the problems we are seeing. JMHO.

I live in Southern California and my dealer took 3 weeks to fix the problem. I had a roughly about 11,400 miles on it when it took a dump. They sent me to Enterprise and I qualified for a Ford Focus . I payed the difference for a SUV ($10 a day) I think they should have at least given me a vehicle equal to a TLS. The only good thing is during those three weeks I drove over 3,000 miles and drived that SUV to the ground At the time I thought it was weird that the dealer didn't act surprised when I told them about the tranny problem (thats because there was people before me and there are more after me). Yes it sure gets better than that. I have some new problems with my TLS

Coming in way late in this thread, but I hope that that's (your subject line) not what you'd tell the service guy, are you?

I mean, which sounds better--"My tranny blew" or "I blew my tranny" if you're looking to get something fixed under warranty?

I know, I know--we all know what he meant; just playing on his words, that's all.

I wouldnt care if he read this truthfully. I know its a common fu** up on tls but as long as its under warrenty they cant really say anything. not trying to start anything.

as long as it is under warranty if you told him you did it doing neutral drops they would still have to fix it.

Perhaps so, but your statement shouldn't be taken as a generalization which might apply to any component. Notwithstanding the specific tranny failure issue that is constantly discussed in this forum, think about what you said--"as long as it is under warranty". Surely you're not implying that as long as something is under warranty it doesn't matter how the failure occured? A somewhat extreme example of what I'm talking about--would a person expect a dealership to repair his engine--which is still under warranty--if it started having problems because the guy poured tranny fluid instead of engine oil into his engine?
