gateshifting is faster for me, whenever i ss it kicks to second automatically right before v-tec

You really need a lot of practice with ss to get it to shift optimally. I still believe it's the best method: you can practice to get better at it and it doesn't abuse the transmission as badly as the gate-shifting.

I used SS perfectly in my 97 Prelude all the time and my tranny blew at 87k miles.
If you want best performance, perfect SS mode. If you want to save your tranny, leave it in D5 for optimal tranny shifting points

err well is there a special trick to keep it in first long enough for v-tec to kick in...mine always shifts out at like 5000-5500 rpm and i lose my high end which is where all my power is :smackhead

ss and vsa off, but if you can master gateshifting its the best bc you can redline it all the way

My car lets me redline first gear before it shifts to second. I have a 03 tl-s tho. Does that make a difference?? I don't think it should though.

Let me rephrase what I meant - only the 99 TL allows you to shift from 1st gear to 2nd manually. For 2000+ TL (and 02+ TL-S), the transmission shift you into 2nd gear automatically - you have no control or choice over this.

heh '99TL here....ive done 7200rpm in first... i know its bad, i was learning optimal shift. i came up with this:

i click up 1st to 2nd at 6000rpm and because of the delay, it will shift at perfect redline, 2nd to 3rd, i just shift when i hit 78mph (6100rpm w/delay it redlines), 3d to 4th i **** at 125, only gotten to 141.

heh too bad '99TL are only 4speed out there... my fourth gear blows.

one nite i was bored so i decided to make some test runs.

the first run was with A/C and no SS (D4, i have a '99)

the second run was no A/C and SS

from 105 to 125, there is a HUGE difference in acceleration. when using SS it accelerates like 2 times faster than no SS :wow:

btw i beat a civic without using SS or downshifting today. i wouldve murdered him if i used SS and dowshifted.
