Question Fake HIDs and leather???

Hi everyone! First time poster! I've been reading over on the G35 forum them talk about how our TLs have "fake" hids and "fake" leather!: I love my TL too much to hear that! Can anyone comment for me please! I've heard the statement about both before and was just curios on everyone's thoughts!

I know HIDs are real... or else those dumbasses stealing our HIDs don't know what they're doing. Maybe they should crack open a G35 and steal some "real" HIDs.

The leather maybe not be of the highest quality but it's still leather.

For durability, the vinyl/leather combo is the best.

I would much rather have what I have in my TL than full leather. Check out the older Acuras and look at their leather. They are all split on the side of the seats. I could give a sh!t if the backs of the seats are vinyl or leather.

HID's are real but not self-leveling. Not sure if the G35s are or not.

There are plenty of cars that have leather and vinyl. Marketing departments choose their words VERY carefully -- when they say "Leather-trim" or "Leather-trimmed seating surfaces" they mean just that. I couldn't care less that my seatbacks (or wherever else) are vinyl. Sure there are better, but it looks (and feels) just fine to me.

Also, the "fake HID" thing is yet another product of their wild imaginations. This isn't the first time they've invented things to make their cars look better and I'm sure it won't be the last.

I explain a little on the fake leather thing. I drive a 2002 Acura 3.5RL. It was given to me, because Moms wanted something "sporty" so I got her car. But any way the leather in the RL is like 3 times better than the leather in the TL. And the RL was built in Japan, so there isn't any funny rattles, wind noises, or tranny problems with my car.

I don't think Honda more advanced than Nissan at all. I think they both had HID on there cars at the same time. The Q45 got HIDs in '99 and I think the (98)RL and TL did the same. The '02 Q45 has the most powerful HIDs period. I was beside one at the light and damn, them lights were bright.

I think Honda has backed itself into a corner with the TL and RL. Both cars need to go RWD or AWD. The TL-P can safely be bumped up to 240hp but the TL-S doesn't not need to get any more power while in a FWD setup. I drove one of them cars and the Vtec spike is killer and a bad driver would easily lose control.

Lightbulb fake HIDs

maybe they mean our HIDs are not as bright. I'm not sure what the G35's are, but our 4200k are nothing compared to Phillips 6000k. IMO, of course.

The seats in the TLs are a combination of leatherette (vinyl) and real leather. The center sections that would most likely come in contact with your body (center of top and bottom cushions--the perforated section in the Type S models) are genuine leather, although the level of quality is subjective. Everything else (sides, back, and edges) are vinyl. So there is some truth to the "not real leather" argument.

I believe the fake HID accusation comes from the difference between projector HIDs and reflector HIDs. We have the reflector type, where the bulb is focused backwards onto the parabolic reflector at the back of the headlight casing, which in turn casts the light out to the front. Projector HIDs are similar to those found in BMW, Audi and Lexus (and I believe the G35s), wherein the bulb shines forward (projects) out the lens, more like a normal headlight. That's why if you look at an Audi HID it looks different than ours. They are both "real" HIDs; they just use different technology. Some will argue that the true upscale market uses projector HIDs, therefore ours are "poser" HIDs. But they are real, and IMHO I think they work better (as far as light dispersement works) than projector-types (which may look better to others).

G35 drivers are talking trash about our cars because deep down inside, G35 drivers know that they bought into the "Hype" that was the G35. Unfortunately, after they had already purchased the car, they realized what a huge mistake they made in getting the G35, and are now out to trash talk the superior automobile, the TL-P and TL-S. Too bad for them, they rushed into a decision that they now regret, and the only way to atone for it is to talk sh!t about our cars. To those G35 owners out there, "sucks to be you!"

And notice the REAL HID's in the sig

Their car has vinyl trim too! First, all car leather is crap unless you drive a Rolls Royce where they use 18 cows for the back seat. Second, Leathermate is much more durable and won't crack like cheap car leather. Finally, if our HIDs aren't realy, How come people want to steal them?

I looked at their forum once and I came to a conclusion that most of them are a bunch of immature 16-18 year olds whose parents refuse to buy them a more aggressive kind of car and give them the hyndai-look the G35 (the 2-door looks ok but the 4 door.....)

One guy said "Are you kidding me, Acura is not even a Luxury car maker, they compete with Maximas"
Now how far does your head have to be up your ass to say that??

both the 99 rl and 99 tl got the HID the same time. They were still halagon for 98 RLs.

Also, you said your car has no tranny problems, and no rattles cuz its made in japan? Well my old man has a RL as well, and his car rattles more than my TL does. So go figure. Oh and the TL tranny is made in Japan also.

RL leather is very soft but the seats are also not sporty at all. The support on the TL seats are much better. IMO of course.

I checked Kelly Blue Book's website. The G35 "real" XENON HID headlamps is a $550 option and it is only available if Leather interior is selected. For $550, we can add a second set of "real" HID on out TL

Mercedes does it!!!

Just got my girlfriend a 2002 c240, leather is an option! If you dont choose that option, you get the vynl on the sides, and leather inserts. IMO, the vynl won't crack and look ****ty on the sides likt "true" leather. The G35 is the base model Infiniti. If you look at previous G infiniti's, They are built off of the sentra platform. Let them talk smack all they want. The bottom line is, They are too cheap to buy the better model, so they have to talk smack about other cars to make them feel good that they drive a hooked up sentra!

Ok, here are my 2-cent worth....

G35 has Reflector Type HID, just like our TLs.... so, I don't see any way how they can call our HID "Fake"... secondly, unless you drive a 7-Series/S-Class/A8/RR/Bentley, expect to see Vinyl in the interior.... When it says "Leather-Trimmed Seating Surface", it means the side of the cushion/seatback where your body has direct contact with, are trimmed in leather, while the rest(cushion/seatback sides, backside of the seats...etc) are trimmed in vinyl..... and cars with full leather and/or "true"(whole seat trimmed in leather) leather seats are too few and far in between... I have yet to see ONE dometic model with FULL leather seats/interior.... and again, most Japanese cars, and quite a bit of low-mid priced Euros..... even Caddy's own Seville STS has leather seating surfaces....

P.S. Leather in RL is only as good as the ones in TLs, belive it or not....maybe a TICK better, but not much so....Nappa leather is the minimum to be qualified as luxury... and Connolly is, no doubt, the best..... and can be found in ALL Jags, as well as RR and Bentley...

P.S.S. It takes about 12 - 15 cows to trim the WHOLE interior of an RR.... not 18 cows for backseat only...... My S-Class needed about 8-10 cows to trim the interior.....

Guys it's okay. This is just another example of G35 owners who bought into the infamous nissan hype and they are mad about it so they talk $hit about the competition...:p You know they actually said that infiniti is ranked higher in reliability? I checked consumer reports and J.D. and I haven't found a infiniti on the top of the list... Where they pulling all this $hit from?

LOL... actually, I thought G35 is positioned above I30/I35 and below Q45(and future M45)??

Greg D,

The "vinyl" used in C240 is MB-Tex, which is a higher grade vinyl(I would rather call it synthetic leather), and it's used on whole seats/door trim IF you don't have leather option on the car....

I think the G35 is about $40K, a class above the I35. Looks like Infiniti repositioned the G series. But I wouldn't be surprised if they're also getting "leather seating surfaces", though. I think every carmaker (including POS Lexus) does that to cars under $50K besides Bimmer and Merc (not sure about Audi and Jag).

As for who's superior, all I want to say is that Honda is building engines for Formula One teams. Where is Nissan in F1
don't get me wrong, I'm not talking crap on nissan...i'm just bringing up a fact.

[EDIT] Sorry for the wrong info. G35 is about the same as the I35...at least the sedan is. The $40K or so car should be the M45 (has a V8 engine) that Infiniti's putting out sometime in the future. It seems that I have made a mistake. Sorry.

IMO, G35 is ugly as fOK. Especially the rear. Nissan isn't what it used to be anymore... it's a freakin Renault-nissan now...

Some poeple in this forum show their stupidness everyday in this forum. They pull stuff out their A$$ without any founding or backup for their statements. I mean really go read up about cars, you will learn that no car maker is perfect. Renault does not own Nissan. Who do you think makes more $$ Renault or Nissan.
Renault owns shares of Nissan and vice versa.

The G35 is no way even closely similar to a Sentra. Infiniti has always and yet I say it again, ALWAYS been more reliable than Acura, according to JDpowers and Consumer Reports. Althought my RL is flawless. JDPowers has Lexus as #1 Infiniti#2 and Acura was like one step above Honda at #4 or 5. Consumer Reports has the I30 as the most reliable Luxury sedan, the G20 as the most reliable car, period! , the QX4 as the most reliable SUV and they rank Infiniti above Lexus. This info changes every year so expect something new to come along.

Stating that the TL's transmission was made in Japan makes Acura look worse, now you can't blame it on slack American workers. All Infinitis are built in Japan. I think the '02 or '03 will be the last years for the I35.

Some car mags have just came out and blatantly stated that they don't really consider Acura a luxury brand because they don't have a RWD V8 luxury car(ideal Premium American Luxury Sedan).

Please explain to me how I am bashing Acura by stating factual data. In that case JDPowers, Consumer Reports, all Car Mags, and bad tranny owners are all bashing Acura. Like I said they pull stuff out their a$$.
