Cool Extended Warranties, Are They Worth It?

I recently purchased a '03 3.2 TL Type S with 46000 miles on it. Love it BTW. I was wanting to get some feedback and opinions on extended warranties. I was quoted $2,000 for an Acura extended warranty to 100,000 and CarMax who sold it to me quoted $1,800 to 105K with $50 deductible if they do the work and $75 if I go elsewhere. What other kinds of deals are you folks aware of and are extended warranties worth it IYO?

Thanks!!

honestly bro.. i wouldn't take it... since the only thing wrong with the car is the tranny and thats already covered til 100,000... not to mention.. if ur gonna mod ur car.. extended warranties are useless.... unless ur just modding ur car with new light bulbs lol....

also.. for that 2K.... u can do so much more!

Extended warranties are generally a bad deal for the buyer.

But the 2nd gen TLs do have some serious transmission reliability issues.

Is your car one of the 2003 TLs with the 7 year/100,000 mile extended warranty on the transmission? If you're not sure, register your car at Acura.com or call Acura directly. (All 1999-2002 TLs are covered. Only some 2003 TLs are covered.)

If you car is covered by that I would definitely pass on buying a warranty.

The transmission is the only big ticket repair that I would worry about.

Transmission and Computer Work Done

Spoke with Acura today and they told me this car had a transmission kit installed and computer work done. They said the new computer is covered for 14 years or 150K. Didn't mention extended warranty on the transmission tho.

i just called acura and they told me my 03 tl-s has 7 yrs 9 mos or 109k miles extended warranty. it also has 10 yrs 150k miles extended warranty on the SRS system.

they didn't ask me for my VIN so I'm assuming it's across the board?

my warranty is coming up and i was offered the extended warranty by the dealership. i seriously thought about getting it but now i feel better.

'03 TL S Warranty Only 50K?

Just spoke with Acura, gave them my VIN number and they told me my warranty is only to 50K for mine. They told me this car had been brought in for the transmission recall and some kit was installed.

I Have noticed a weird thing sometimes when driving 35-45 mph in auto where it downshifts. I'm kinda worried after reading about the 2nd gear thing. I have 3 months or 4K left on the factory warranty.

Bring your car into your local Acura dealer before your warranty expires. Have them check the car out and document your reason for bringing it in. Even if they don't find anything this might help you get warranty coverage after your warranty officially expires.

It really depends on how long you plan to keep the car. If you're planning to get rid of it soon, then its not worth it.

If you plan to keep it for the next few years, it might be smart to get the extended warranty.

03 TL owners are in a predicament - many of the 03's are not covered under the 109k tranny warranty because Honda supposedly fixed the issue mid 03 production. However many 03 TL owners who are not covered have had tranny issues.

$2,000 to cover the transmission is to 100k is a small price to pay compared to the $4000 it costs to fix an automatic transmission.

I had my Tranny replaced at around 60k miles about 4 months ago. I've gone about 6k miles since, and I can feel my new tranny slipping.
