they wont i already tried that. it wasnt all there fault. little bit of mine too. initailly i told them to take off the second/larger one. they they started to question what i was saying. i told them i wanted it to be a little louder so i could actually hear it. and so that is the one that they took off.

while they were doing it they managed to pull the o2 sensor out of the cat so when i left the check engine light was on. i went back and argued it with them. and made them check it and low and behold i was right. o well they were nice about it. but its done and sounds nice.

why were the anywhere close to the O2 sensor. The resonator is close to the rear left wheel.

It would actually be helpful if someone inserted or provided a sound clip of what the results would sound like.. then it'd be alot more convincing.. understand what I mean? I mean hey, if i could just remove a silly little piece rather than buying a different exhaust all together, that'd definitely be awesome! haha By the way.. with this mod, how does it comply to regular state inspections?

ill get a sound clip i still running stock exhaust. it will not effect the emissions at all it is simply a sound deadner. nothing more. just like the intake resonator. the sound is not changed much slightly louder not much. on the freeway you can barley hear it. road noise is more but under light acceleration you can tell a decent noise increase. its not obnoxious at all. if you turn on your music just a little bit you cant really hear it at all. i recommend it. no downside IMO ill have a sound clip hear soon.prob try to tommorrow.

there is a flex pipe in front of the cat that allows the exhaust to bend alittle so you can work on it and nothing cracks during driving. and they cut the pipe right before the second res. and the pipe bent at the flex pipe and the only thing stoping it from pulling further down was the o2 sensor/wire and it pulled the wiring harness out. im not good at explaing things so i hope that you understand that. ill try to find a picture and point it out.

Your not going to get much from the sound clip. Its very subtle in sound change. Wont do a thing vor state inspections. Its purely for sound, and since its not loud it wont make a difference

Wouldnt have thought it would have bent that far to pull on it. Ive had mine apart a few times and its never fallen enough to tug on the wire

I feel stupid to repeat this, but if I took the resonator off completely would it be annoying? Or should I get one of those smaller tube resonators like a 16" or 18"?

To give you an example of my taste...I like hearing the rumble of a Mustang GT. I know it won't sound anything like when I had my Mustang and I took the cats off. (I had straight pipes to the mufflers) I just wanted to give you an example of my taste to help out with your suggestions. I have Copmtech axle backs. Thanks!

I did that to my 93 honda Civic. straight pipe to flowmaster from cat without resonator.
I hated that setup because it sounded like a fart can. Then again it was a 4 bangger.
Well, I will just take one of the resonator out on my TL-S and enjoy it then....

If your running stock exhaust No. its just a real SUBTL sound change. Its not like pulling a muffler off a car!

its able to and it will. he put pressure on it when he was cutting and i made an error when i was telling you how it happened. he cut the hanger holding the res. then cut the res on the back side so it had the weight of the res on the wire. then when he was cutting it he was putting pressure on the wire by pushing down on it while he was cutting. he was not gentle. but its fixed now so no problem.

if you went and bought the car off the lot it would not seem like you did anything to the exhaust. take both resonators off if you just do one you really wont notice anything. if im drive under normal load. accelerating and have the sterio on at all you cant hear it. now if you really get on it. it is still slightly noticeable but really like i said it does not sound aftermarket. if we had a true duel exhaust it would sound more like a 350Z. which i was told that if i took off my res it would sound like. it does not at all. but it sounds better. do it you wont regret it.

I've heard 350Z exhaust notes (I'm the one who told you that) and that's what it sounds like to me. Not nearly as loud, but V6 exhaust notes aren't going to vary that much. I wouldn't want it to be as loud as the 350Z. Plus I only had the largest resonator removed, not both.

I don't think they have real dual exhaust. I think it's a split just like the TL's. Not positive, though.

Wouldnt matter, thats not all that causes it. motor, head design, pipe length, mufflers, ect..... all go into the sound of the exhaust. While the TL isnt the exact same it does sound similar, just alot more subdued!

i agree with you that it sound like a 350Z in the fact that it sounds like a V-6 but there is a distinct diffence in sound. both sound really nice. but i can tell the difference in the note.

i drove out to see my fiancee this weekend. and for anyone worried about sound and the dronning effect on the freeway. at 60 you can hear it if you are listening for it and radio is off. 70-80 you cant tell even if you are listening for it.

decided that removing the exhaust resonators and getting a CAI were a bad Idea. now everytime that i drive i want to hear both and end up going out of my way just to hear them.

I finally did it. But they accidentlly removed both resonators.
It sounds pretty cool but at 2300+/- rpm its droning sound is pretty annoying, espically when I cruise at 75~80 mph.

I might ask them to put the llittle one back on.

Does anyone have both removed?

Are you on stock exhaust? I have both removed and its not bad at all. The little one does very very little to the sound. its the big one that does all the work.

i have no droning noise at all. i can hear it when accelerating but at a constant speed i cant hear it at all. at freeway speeds the wind noise is way louder than the exhaust. turn your climate control on and listen to music softly. you wont hear it. BTW i have both removed.

hmmm....
I do have stock mufflers. Could it be the new muffler tip?
I have oval shape tips added when the resonators were removed.
they cut the mufflers tips about 3" and welded them on.
I don't think tips cause the noise but do know what else...........

Quick Reply: Exhaust resonator
