engine problem

Today something strange happened to my car for the first time. I had been driving the car, stopped to buy some groceries when I came back I started up the car, it started to shake a bit then just turned off, did that about three times untill it finally stayed on, but the engine light came on. :wtf: Car is a 2000tl with 34,566 miles on it, new battery. :bigcry: Anybody know what might be the problem.

Thanks

i dont know.....changed the fuel filter yet?? even tho lo miles, maybe aged and clogged....also, if only weekend car, then sometimes when a car sits for a while, there are dirt particles and stuff that collects/settles in the tank and system that may cause "clogging" somewhere....i just feel like its fuel related...

if i couldn't spend any money, i would take it out and get on the highway and romp her up to about 90-100 or more *safely* and just drive her more....she needs to be used......thats if it was my car...what do I know?...

It could be just from the car sitting too long without being driven, especially if you live somewhere where it is cold right now. Go to Autozone/PepBoys and get a code diagnostic run and see if it is throwing any errors.

Get the code scanned, then go from there. AutoZone offers free scanning.

By the way, holy low miles on a 2000. Mine's an '03, and I have nearly identical mileage on her.

my car has done that a good few times as well, thought it was the battery at first but it's not. i have over 70K and it does that, next time it happens just floor it a few times till it starts ok but usually once u can get it into drive w/o shutting off and start driving it's ok. if u do a search on this site you'll see others with similiar problems like this and some suggest that it may be a valve called "E--" something. should be covered on your warranty, if not i hear it's about $1000 to get fixed. haven't done anything with mine since it's out of warranty. good luck.

Sounds like it has to be someing along the "Not getting fuel" catagory. Check to see if it has a clogged fuel filter,, if not check the fuel pump. If none,, try reset the EMU and see if it does it again

when i called acura a while back asking for the price of the fuel filter, they said it was in the gas tank and it's usually not serviced.

Could it be the alternator as someone had suggested.

Nope. The alternator has nothing to do with starting the car. It's all on the starter and the battery power.

Have you gotten it scanned yet? I'm guessing that it's probably clogged fuel rails or insufficient EGR flow. Neither is devastating or anything like that, but in case it's something else, you should go get it scanned as soon as possible, and let us know what code it threw. It will be an alphanumeric code, starting with a P.

That's most likely the IAC valve and needs to be cleaned.

The codes should still be stored in the PCM, even if it went off on its own. You don't have to wait 'til the next time the MIL comes on to get it scanned.

BIG_KOUT --

My car does that at EVERY stop. It's annoying as hell, even worse when the HVAC is on. Last time, it went away after I replaced the O2 sensor. This time, I don't think that's it. I doubt it's the IACV, since my normal idle is perfectly smooth. Torque converter, maybe.

this happens to me almost all the time....not when i first start it, only after i drive around 4 a while, shut it off and wait a few minutes then start it again...either it feels like its gunna stall or it does.....i usaully press the gas and get the rpm's up and then its fine.

it may be EGR related.

Exactly! Mine was doing the same shit a couple weeks ago. The way my dealer explained it was sometimes after you come to a stop and shut your car down, the IAC can get 'stuck' in the open position and cause your car to do that the next time you try and start it. Once it unsticks everything returns to normal.

They told me that since it only happened one time they were not going to replace it at this point, but it did scare the shit outta me when it happened. I thought it was something really serious but apparently its pretty common and not much to worry about.

A jammed Intake Air Control Valve is kinda rare these days. I'd agree with the EGR Acura is well aware of all the EGR issues with the V6.

FUNNY STORY.... We took our CL down to South Tacoma Honda to see about trading it in on an '04 Civic. When we brought the sales person out to the CL to show him all the cool shit I've done to it........ It wouldn't start.
Just wouldn't freakin start. It would crank and crnk and crank and sputter. It took about 5 minutes before it actually would keep running. From that day this was a common issue with that car. POOP.

Happens to me everytime the car is warm.... I need a new EGR valve. When I start the car, as soon as it turns over, I give the gas a little punch.... and I said LITTLE.... so it barely revs just over 1,000RPMs.... then its fine.

with my problem as stated above, the dealer said it was warped front rotors. But how could it be my rotors if the problem happens after I come to a stop

yeah, wtf.... and when I got my car back, the dealer didn't put a piece of paper down on the floor mats and the guys boots must have been all muddy, and he got mud on the plastic kick panel next to the door. I can't wait till I get a service notice in the mail asking how they did.
