Engine power

I own a 2000 TL with a new tranny, 97K on it - all highway. The car drives and looks like new. I drove my friends 2001 yesterday with 37K on it and there was remarkably more power in his engine.

Any idea how I can get my engine back to its peak performance.

Get mods, change things...ie hoses, spark plugs, etc.

I am not all that familiar with car stuff, and I think mods is short for modifications, but what did you have in mind?

headers, intake/icebox, exhaust (although minimal power gains), Unorthodx Racing Pullies (although I haven't done this because its a direct engine mod).

I have Headers and an Icebox, which essentially improve the cars breathing making it more efficient. Headers improve the airflow coming out of the engine while the icebox improves the airflow into the engine as well as getting cooler air in.

Is there an engine cleaner that might help. Maybe some of the injectors are clogged.

Don't forget to change your O2 sensor, it will bring back some of that lost performance and improve your fuel economy.

change all the fluids, change all the plugs, adjust valve lash, replace timing belt (if it hasnt been already) replace O2 sensor, possibly the cat. a cat with that many miles on it could be worn out/starting to get pluged
with a manual most stuff can be accomplished by most who know how to turn a wrench

get the BG treatment also, nothing even remotly compares to it when it comes to cleaning injectors/throttle body/ valves/ everything...

also have your dealer check your motor mounts, faulty mounts can cause a huge loss in torque.

Funny you should mention that, I have the feeling my mounts aren't good because I feel a vibration in the gas pedal when I accelerate. What does it cost to replace the mounts?

The BG44K is what I have been telling you guys to use before you do anything else. This is what the ACURA dealer puts in your cars at mileage intervals. This stuff does work & you need to put a can in every 7,500 miles www.bgprod.com

The ACURA deal should have it at the parts counter it cost about $22-$25 a can & just pour it in the gas tank. You might need a funnel to make sure the stuff does not spill because it can & its a mess. You can also call BG to see who has it in your area. My ACURA dealer has it & I picked up a can last week put it in every 7,500 miles at fill up.

FYI, I bought the product from a website wwwextrememotorsports.com for 16.00 a can. I bought three to have around.

Thank you for the info, I like what I have read about this product.

Thats a great price because I got a free coupon for a free can of BG44K last month. I took a class with Pat Gosss from the MotorWeek TV Show Pat is also the spokeman for BG products. They had a drawing for the free cans on the 4 nights we had the class. He gave away 5 cans each night. I won a can the 3rd night I took his class. I picked up the can from my ACURA dealer last week. But on the coupon it said $22 & for dealers to honor the coupon. I have purchased from the deler & they have charged me $25. But I generally get it lfor less because I had work just done to the car. One time the parts guy gave it to me for free he told me to stick it in my pocket.

They have another product called MOA which I bought as well. It is an oil additive that seals up the engine. I paid 7.95 for that one.

Yep like I know I take my car to the dealer for service & the BG products are used at mileage intervals at the dealer. The BG MOA oil additive they put in every other oil change. The BG44K they put in at the 15K & 30K service & the ATC trans conditioner they put inat the 30K service also. They have been doing this since I got my 2000TL almost 4yrs ago. I learned about the BG products back in 1993 the DODGE dealership were my sister got her Caravan from used them when I would take it in for service intervals.
