The main advantage on useing the Synthetic Oils is their don't get thick and gummy at freezing or below air temps.
They claim they will give the engine the needed lubrication in the critical first few crancks of the engine when starting.
Given your location up North and the below freezing temps, I wouldn't use anything else.
I use the Penzoil full synthetic 5-W30 here in FLA all year round.

yup full synthetic is the best by far - you can get the 5q mobil 1 oil at WalMart (hate that place) for about $23.

Same situation here, what would be a good oil filter to use, I have a 99 acura 3.2 tl with 88,000.

As far as oil goes any thing 5w will be fine. hell even 10w would work but 5w30 is what teh car calls for (01 is less weight) as long as you use whats recomended your fine. as for the filter, if your doing the typical 3000 mile changes any thing is good.

how about Mobile1 ....0W-20 ?

I've been using it since summer, and now for winter.

some people say that the revs are faster with 0W-20.....

I guess it does get up to vtec a tad bit quicker....

Because you are in a very cold climate area, the "0" grade is fine for the winter but not necessary in the summer. 20 wt oil is a bit thin for a car with over 60k miles....would not go with anything lighter than 30wt for the added protection/viscosity.

i use amsoil 5W-30 for summer
and now winter i use Motul 0W-40, they outperform any other big name brands

the 0W-40 is amazing in winter, good startup and great power

highly recommended

'amazing in winter' would be true of almost any 0w oil. 'great power'? Even Motul doesn't claim this.

Motul 0W-40 contains ESTER and will enhance power output, and motul really does outperform most commercial oil, this is designed for larger output cars, the lower output cars can use 0w-30 which is more efficient in fuel econ

they did a dyno test on a ford and motul have 4whp more than castrol syntec with the 5W-30

and most of all it's 100% synthetic, unlike the Mobil and Castrol which are not 100%
