Mine is coming on and going off randomly (the seat IS empty before anyone explains how OPDS works I am very familiar with it).

 

its possible that it would throw a code while its on.

 

Wonder if it would store it? It comes and goes.

 

??? unsure of that. Maybe call the dealer in the AM and just ask them if it does?

 

I actually called earlier and was told the "Side Airbag Off" light usually comes on only if it senses something there in the seat that's out of place. It's the "SRS" light that signals a problem. But I have a hard time believing that the SAO light should come and go and it be meaningless.

 

i noticed on the way home from getting mine my dad was in the passenger seat and was moving around getting something in the back and my light came on and off a couple times i was thinking great i just bought this car and i have to take it in

Well it's functioning properly if someone's in the seat. It's not if the seat is empty.

 

i have the same problem. i know it disengages when my son is up there, i guess he's too light, today i had one of my friends in the pass seat and it was commin on while i was commin to a stop. my friend is pretty heavy prolly bout 300lbs. and later tonight my wife was driving by her self and it came on with nothing in the seat. can someone explain this opds to me. oh yea o2 tl-s

 

Okay, oddly enough this is the pattern I noticed.

Anytime I sit something very heavy in the seat (like $25 in pennies), when I remove that object the light will be erratic for a day or so, coming on for no reason at all. Also, if anyone 250+lbs sits in the seat (rare), it will do the same.

that makes sense, cause i had my son he's 4 and when he put his arm on the armrest it made him just light enough to turn the light on, that was bout 3 days ago. and today it came on when my friend was in the seat, then when no one was in the seat.. ill see what happens in the next couple days.. i love this car but theres just alot of nic nac shit goin wrong with it..

 

Ok, I know this isn't for the TL, but I thought I would chime in.... I am having a side airbag off issue in the RL - but the opposite. It doesn't turn on under any circumstances anymore. Prior to having a series of TSBs performed, if there was anything over a few lbs in the front pass. seat, the light would turn on. Now, it doesn't do that. After I noticed this, my SRS light came on and has been going on and off randomly.

IMO, if you think there is something wrong, just have the dealer check it and document it. Better safe than sorry with the SRS.

 

As long as the Side Airbag Off light isn't on constantly, I wouldn't worry at all about it. Mine behaves perfectly fine until something really heavy hits the seat, then it'll come on and off with the empty seat for a day or so, but as soon as someone gets in that side it goes back to normal operation.
