i asked the dealer if i can switch to the synthetic oil but the answer is "not recommended". did anybody change it & how's the difference???

 

I think a lot of people on here use synthetic. I myself am due for my first oil change this weekend and I'm going to put in Mobile1 Synthetic (5w-30). The dealer probably doesn't recommend it b/c they don't use it. By that I mean you wouldn't get your oil changed there so they would be out money!!

 

i have been using mobil 1 5W~30W for my cls since the first time oil change. even my acura dealership sell the same oil in the service counter but a bit more expensive,of course. syn oil is better than normal mineral oil...protect your engine better..

 

I just had the oil changed at the dealership (don't laugh--it was a free oil change; otherwise, I know how to do my own oil changes) and the weird thing is that on the invoice it didn't specify exactly what type/weight of motor oil was used. I can only assume that they put in 5W-30 because when I looked inside the service bay I could see the large overhead tanks from where the motor oil is dispensed, and none of them were labelled 5W-20. I'm not gonna worry about it too much...

thanks guys, i will probably switch to mobile 1 synthetic after the first two free oil changes offered by the dealer. btw, somebody told me that we can do the oil change for every 6000 miles by using synthetic??? if this is true, it actually not gonna need to spend a lot more than using the regular one.
