Engine clatter, bottom end noise, WTF?!

Is this noisy clatter normal on Honda motors? It sounds like lifter noise or something in the head. I've heard this noise on a lot of other Honda products.

The noise goes away for the 1st day after changing the oil but then comes right back.

I cant answer that. My car makes so many noises it sounds like an 80 year old woman with bad gas and arthritis. I'd get it checked out by the dealer if your still in warranty.

Sounds like the valve clearance needs to be adjusted. The service manual recommends adjusting the valve clearance if noisy and inspect the valve clearance at 105K miles (when replacing the timing belt and water pump).

Well yea, mine too, just sitting there idleing... but you turn a wheel or punch the gas or hit the brakes, and you've got yourself another story! LOL! I still love it, and wouldn't trade it for the world.

I think my car makes a similiar noise. I thought it was because the plugs are going bad. Then after reading the post about the throttle body needing cleaning. I think the rough idle clatter maybe due to the build up.
fsttyms1 did u hear "clatter" before you cleaned the throttle body

Tick = major engine problem

I have the same problem on my 00 TL! Ticking noise, worse when cold @ 72K miles. I took it to the dealer, it is a major engine proplem. #1 and 3 cylinder wear causing piston slap (tick). 5K to fix at the dealer if not under warrantee.

Mine was caused by a lean feul mix that broke down the oil and caused excessive wear. This could be caused by a gasket leak.

This is a design or mfg issue and I am still fighting Acura to pay out of warrantee, but good will.

I think I have the same ticking problem. When I listen to the engine with the hood up it is a ticking sound in the back of the engine compartment. I have an appointment at the dealer on Monday for a broken motor mount. I am going to have them check it out.

caused by dealership

My engine now sounds like a truck. This was after the dealership performed a 60K mile service on it. I'm taking mine to an independent garage from this point on.
