Question Emblem Removal

If you have had a positive or negative experiance with emblem removal, please post a reply:

I have seen several TL's that look "clean" with the "TL Type-S" emblems removed. Are these held on by some type of apoxy or are they drilled into the trunk lid? What would you all recommend as the best method (while protecting the paint) to remove these emblems? I appreciate your help and insight.

every thing but the "A" will come off with out any holes. buy some goo gone or emblem and adhesive remover and soak the letters before acouple times before you remove them (to aid in the easeness of removal) then just reomve them bu pulling with your fingers

Mission Accomplished! I keep forgetting to use the search engine.

As soon as I found the right thread, I went outside in the Balmy 20 degree F weather, and carefully used an exacto blade and a flat head to remove everything except the "A". I love the way it looks. Very clean in appearance now. Ohh, and I use some E-Z wax/cleaner for the clean up...it was too easy. The worst part of the un-install was the fact that my hands felt disconnected from my body afterwards!!! Thanks for the help.

Don't take the A C U R A off then, you'll have a hard time lining them up right. The TL and Type-S come of pretty easy and can be put on pretty easily as well. I recommend you do this on a HOT summer day, it makes the glue come off a LOT easier then if you did it now in the winter. If you do it now, make sure you have a hairdryer handy so you can heat up the gunk that's left behind so it can be removed easier.

I would of never attempted it with a razor. I did my with fishing line. Its a lot safer and you dont have to worry about scratching up the paint...

ya I heard you can use fish line or dental floss. Either way, if your hand slips by accident, you don't need to worry about scratches. I would be a little worried with the temp that low outside, and me being unstable and all, I would never use something sharp near my paint!!!

fishing line is definitely better then dental floss, I found that out after using half the roll of floss. If you pull too hard the floss breaks. I found out after I got my emblems off that I had a fishing pole in the garage. DUH!

So to align the A C U R A is that difficult? Is there any solutions or suggestions to this problem so that I can do this?

I'm thinking maybe you can make a template of sorts or hold a measuring tape underneath the letters and making note of where the letter starts and ends in reference to the edges of the trunklid....

Heat up with the hair dryer to deactivate the adhesive (make it soft) then use wax dental floss to remove the emblem. Use Goo Gone to remove any adhesive left over and clean with alcohol>wax.

It should be an easy job.

^^^probably, but i wouldn't use it. plus I can't imagine it being good for the plastic bumper and/or trim.

Good thread. I was thinking of removing the emblems from the back also.
Didn't know which had holes behind them.

I used to use WD-40 on the paint to get rid of rubber from the tires, when I race my car. ( not the TL).
Now I use mineral spirit (works better) to remove anything off the paint.
Just make sure you wax it after .

Well, ended up having to put the "Type S" emblem back on...appears the previous owner put krazy glue to reinstall it and when I popped it off, it took some paint off! I had to use touch up paint and reinstalled it again, with a little twist. I'll try to get some pics up soon of what my friend did to the emblem....
