Exclamation electrical help!

I'm going to install the blue light tape (more info here) and I need to know where I should tap into a 12v power source is that turns the dash lights on and off. Can anyone help? Please!? Going to sleep now but going to take apart my dash as soon as I get up!

Thanks!

My guess would be the headlight on/off switch. I assume you would lose ability to dim via the control on the left side of the wheel. Does that help any?

Dude...this is my 100th post!! Hell yeah! Big ups to Nate for hosting my 100th!!

you can use the parking light wire. its red with a black marker in the drivers side fuse box. you better hook up a really small relay, otherwise some weirdo stuff might happen

it wont dim, it will be live when you turn the parking lights on

Why do I need a relay? Wierdo stuff? Even if the light tape doesn't work out, I need to hook up the indiglo gauges when they get here.

that wire doesnt have enough power to...power the lights.
i doubt it even has enough power to activate a normal relay. you need one of those computer relays

just try it and see what happens

Oh, I get you... so I can grab the signal for the relay from the fuse box as well as a 12v source from the fuse box... hmm, looks like I won't be doing this for a couple days until I figure out my lighting sitro. Thanks for your help!

I found two wires, a red and a black. There is 12v between them only when I turn on my parking lights/headlights. Why can't I just tap into them there? There is 12v!

its 12V but it might not be putting out enough power.

put it this way...ya know that amp in your trunk, you think you can power it off that little dinky parking light wire? heh

just hook it up without the relay and see what happens. a fuse might blow, but big deal. i doubt anything else will happen

BTW, tapping into those wires worked just fine with no relay.

****!

Man... my indiglo pedals were working just fine. Had them hooked up to turn on when the headlights do. Everything was cool. I took a drive and got about 2 blocks... noticed the Check Engine light and stoped the car. Upon inspection, the indiglo transformer had burnt up! Side of it was melted slightly! I disconnected it immediately. I unhooked my battery cable to clear the check engine light and when I rehooked it my engine started cranking!!! I immediately unhooked it again. I think my alarm was just confused momentarily (I have remote start)... except the hood was open and the alarm should not be able to crank the engine with the hood up - theres a cut-off switch. Very much disturbed at this point, I rehooked the battery cable. Everything seems fine. No check engine lights and everything seems ok.

WTF? Why did that **** happen??

I hope your adding those little inline fuses for each of your extras. They're only about $1 or so.

Nah... I should've though. Talked to 4IG and they said the invertor was probably faulty and they'll send me another on ASAP. I'm not messing with electrical anymore man... I'm going to have my friend who knows what hes doing take a look at it and show me how to wire ****.
