downshifting issue, try #2

ok, so I did some more testing on my car. I have a new trannie on my 03 TL-P and it has about 4K miles on it, maybe 2-3 mths.

Here is what happens, let's say I accelerate to 30MPH and then let the accelerator go, well the car naturally downshifts into either a lower gear or neutral, (not sure)..

So the RPMs are at about 2000, then for the next 10 seconds, the car keeps jerking (very lightly, but you can feel it), and every 1-2 seconds goes down another 100 RPM, is this normal? I feel like it keeps hesitating and it annoys the hell outta me. Now I am not pressing any thing else while the car is just cruising (slowing down) after 30mph..

It does it at other speeds too. 1/10 times the Rpms will actually come to 1000 right away, and then there is no shaking or jerking. It almost feels as if the tranny is confused on what gear to go into.

I talked to my Acura mechanic and asked him if it could be the fuel pump or the idle air valve, he said no.

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe that's something built into the transmission, Grade Logic or something like that. It is supposed to do that.

grade logic is just that: it works to choose the best gear for the particular grade you are on (aka slope or hill)

if this is happening on a level surface, then no, i don't think it's right (but what do i know).. and if it feels weird to you and wasn't happening before, then for sure it's not right.

IACV: you can check that during one of these bouts, by shifting into neutral yourself... and seeing if the revs bounce around.

you are in D5 though, correct ?

If YOU dont feel its right bring it back to the dealer. Since you just had it replaced you should bring it back.

Thats why the replacement unit has its own warranty~
Just call the service MANAGER and ask if the head tech can take a quick drive with you.
If they dont have time for that - leave it with them overnight to test warm and cold

All things mechanical are subject to a bad part inside, or assembler had a bad day and put a seal in backwards, or this time you have a selenoid problem....

As always- take donuts with you

When you take it in for the service- which you are paying for,
STATE: the REPLACEMENT trans feels funny... and write a detailed symptoms and occurance report for the tech to read. Leave that report in the car with a box of donuts and a note that says: For the shop guys

Its easy for the tech to do the special trans test drive protocal and check the codes and fluid condition. They like customers who spend money on service, and will be happy to replace the trans if it meets the requirements
