Downshift from 5-3?

Is that alright? Or is that gonna overkill the engine? I was on the freeway one time and i downshifting from 5 to 4 and it ended up only at 3-4 rpm....and wanted to dshift down to 3rd just to try it..but i didn't know if that would be excessively bad. Also..is it possible to just dshift it two times repeadtly? Like from 5...go right to three (tap down quickly two times?

Thanks in advance people./

If an over-rev is unavoidable, then the computer won't even let you downshift. You can flick the shifter down, but the desired gear number will blink on the indicator, and it'll go back to the gear it was in previously.

Usually when you are at 80 mph or less, you can downshift to 3rd and be at about 5k rpm. Sweet spot for some highway action.

when u guys shift do u take ur foot off the gas then put it back on the gas when it shifts gears or do u just hold gas. when you just hold the gas it takes awhile for the gears to shift

I shift with the foot on the gas. It takes a while to shift because it's still an automatic.

you can definitely downshift from 5->3 but I do believe that's one of the big killers for our tranny.

shitt....yea....it probably is one of the bigger killers...

Volcolm..when you shift..UP..there is no need to let foot off gas..but if you DOWN shift..then you should take it off..last time i tried downshifting without letting go of the gas, it woujldn't let me..and i came to this board..asked why the hell it wouldn't downshift and a lot of the people here said you have to take your foot off gas. hope that helps.

Thanks guys.

He's right. Downshifting requires taking your foot off the gas pedal then downshifting. Upshifting, just lay into the floor and shift.

you cant screw up, cause like someone said above, the computer locks you out if you try to pull off a stupid move. it wont let you over-rev.
