Exclamation Donation for today's tragedy

I'm sure most of you know by now the horrible incidents that occured today. Many lives were lost and many children will not be without parents, brothers, sisters, etc. I know some of us are very fortunate so I was thinking that besides giving blood what more can I do?

What do you guys think about setting up or starting a fund raiser to donate money to those that weren't so fortunate in today's tragedy. Snook, I'm down if you are and I would ask one of the moderators to set up a "Sticky" for this and if someone can coordinate, or I will if everyone is okay with that to collect all the money and send it to either RED CROSS, or whatever charity is accepting donations on their behalf.

I will gladly organize it and if i get a good response for it, i'll even set up a paypal account to make it easier for most people to contribute...even a few dollars would be fine.

My cousin and 3 friends worked in WTC #2 and were all lucky to get out (one was in another country, thank god!) and I couldn't imagine if they were missing. The Red Cross really needs the money from what I have been hearing. Please post whether or not you agreee with this and if you have any other charities you would rather donate to!

Also I urge people to go to LOCAL hospitals or a Red Cross center to donate blood (especially if you are a rare blood type). I was in a bad car wreck in high school and know that people really do need blood during these types of tragedys. It only takes about 30-45mins to do and you can be saving one or more lives.

Hey AC, I was just gonna post something on that...so many views, so little posts. Well here is the paypal link:

<!-- Begin PayPal Logo -->
<form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" methd="post">
<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick">
<input type="hidden" name="business" value="comparts@optonline.net">
<input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="Acura-TL donation for RedCross (WTC)">
<input type="hidden" name="return" value="http://216.177.40.14/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21911">
<input type="hidden" name="cancel_return" value="http://216.177.40.14/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21902">
<input type="image" src="http://images.paypal.com/images/x-click-but04.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!">
</form>
<!-- End PayPal Logo -->

In the comment box please include your nick, email, and real name (if you'd like) so we can compile a list of names to include with the card and donation....

Please donate what you can. This is will be a tremendous recovery effort and all the volunteer help and medical supplies will be needed!

why make things more difficult? why can't we just send the money directly to the relief agencies like red cross or whatnot?

This is making it easier for everyone to contribute. Members can pay online with a credit card, or use their existing paypal account to transfer money. This was we can send one lump sum to the Red Cross from 'dedicated members of Acura-TL.com'. I know we have a great deal of members in the greater NY area and this is a way to show appreciation.

Depending on how much we collect we might even split the amount up to different charities/organizations. Over 200 firefighters and EMS workers died today trying to help victims of the terrorist act. These were crews of people first on the scene preparing makeshift trauma units.....some were even volunteers.

I'm There

I will definitely contribute to this fund. Already donated blood today, had to wait 4 1/2 hours in line in order to do it though.

On the downside, as far as I can tell at this point, I lost a friend who worked at the Trade center. I talked to his mom this afternoon, and later this evening, and although not confirmed, he worked in the upper levels of the building, and as far as I can tell nobody could get out of there. He will be remembered though.

Thanks guys...this is a start, hopefully everyone else will jump in. Like AC said, lots of views, but rarely any posts

If we do this as a group we can make more of an impact than separately!

Ok, I just sent in my $100.00. Please, people nothing is too small or too big to donate. The victim's will need as much money as possible. I'm not here to tell anyone what to do with their money, but maybe if you thought about getting that set of springs, sways, headers, etc. take time out to maybe shave off a few bucks or whatever and let's give and help these people out as much as we can. You can either give here (in which that way we can send in a lump sum) or do it yourself directly but please donate. They need all our help.

I would like to thank everyone that took the first step and donated to the paypal fund from Acura-TL.com. The aftermath of this tragedy is unprecedented and it will take numerous weeks if not months of cleanup.

Come on people...any denomination will do, no matter how big or how small. its the thought that counts!

Man, I even got NON-Acura owners to hit this site and donate. C'mon show your support for this great nation.

Anything will help...whether is $1.00 or $1000.00 we're supporting a great cause.

And I would like to thank Soopa on the CL forum for getting this thing going over at CL forum.

Thank you for donations so far...we have 10 people who donated with a total right now of approx $500. I was thinking we could be up to around $5000 by now

It would be a great goal if we could hit 10k!

Just think of all the good that would do...medical supplies, food and water, etc...

I will be definitely sending a donation to the Red Cross. I am a DC firefighter, and yesterday was my scheduled day to work. We were sent to the Pentagon at 10:30, and our ladder truck which has a 2 person bucket of which I was one of the two people in it, was used to put out several fires in areas where it was too dangerous to send people inside. Our truck is still there, but we were relieved by a fresh crew around 6:30 yesterday evening. The entire time I was there, the Red Cross and others were constantly giving the several hundred firefighters and others water, candy, juice, donuts, and hot meals. If you weren't bumping into other firefighters, you were bumping into Red Cross! Their work was outstanding, and I can only imagine what they are doing in NYC. Sorry for being long winded, but I am appreciative for what they do because it allowed me to be effective at what I do.

Send money to paypal already. Well, in Burbank the blood donation's response is so overwhelming that there is a 24 hour back log. Red Cross suggest people want to donate blood can wait for 1 week or 2.

Go to page one of this post and you will see a paypal button. Just click on that.

As for everyone else, please donate something...even if its only $5. We had almost 500 views, 28 posts, but only about 16 donations so far for a total of just under $600. Obviously it won't be close to the 4 million from GE that they donated to the firemen and EMT families in a trust fund, but this is from real people who do care what has happened to our country only a few days ago.......

I'm in.

About donating blood: Remember that blood only has a shelf life of about 40 days. Don't all go giving blood at the same time or the entire stock will go bad next month before it gets used up.

Go to your local Red Cross or other blood centers and ask to schedule a donation over the next few days or weeks so that the supply can be maintaned over a longer period of time. When in doubt, ask them when it is appropriate to give.
