Do ALL Transmissions have problems?

Sorry if its been asked alot, but I did do a search and couldn't find a definite answer.
Does anyone know if ALL (every single one) 2nd gen TL trannys have the failure problem? Or is it just luck of the draw? If it is luck of the draw, what are the chances of getting one that wont fail? (not won't fail for forever, but will last a reasonably long time)

P.S. Do the other cars in Honda's line-up that use this transmission also experience problems? Such as the 7th gen Accord, Odyssey, etc.

Luck of the draw.

All 5-speed automatic units in the Honda/Acura line-up are based on the same structure and therefore prone to failures.

if i had to guess id say yes, but its luck of the draw. ive had 4 failures while some have had none

as for the rest of their line up?? up untill 04 yes they were all affected (odyssey, pilot accord, mdx all with the V6), we will see if the 05' and 06's are affected soon too

Mine had problems, but it has been somewhat fixed (not repaced) and hasn't had any problem since. Could it be how you drive too???

they both can handle alot of power, more than we can produce with a sc and all our mods. power isnt whats killing these transmissions. its a bad design of a part

Ok, I'm probably going to jinx myself here, but I have a little over 61,000 miles on my 03 TL-S, bought in April of '02, and I have never had any issues with my tranny, took it in for the recall and they said it looked good as new. I am in no way easy on this car either. I would say itis just luck of the draw.

...neither did I. Took it in for the 2nd gear recall around 65k and noticed slippage after that (Acura says the timing is a coincidence). A month later the Acura mechanic says those 3 magic words: internal transmission failure.

Well the nice thing is I have never even felt a slip in this thing, shifts are as sharp/crisp as the day I picked it up, still ripping them over going in to second!!

Mine survived till 52225 miles.
But I still think the unit will fail, just a matter of time

when they do their inspection for the 2nd gear shaft and oil jet install they cant inspect the 3rd gear clutchpacks and thats what is the major failur on our cars and teh jet kit does nothing to save them. so the tranny could look perfect to them but they cant see teh real problem

i've said this before but I think we should create a list tranny shops that can build reliable transmission for our cars. Its a shame to waste a car whose engine can last 400K (if maintained) but comes with tranny that lasts < 100K.

Same thing with me except it only took the next day. Got the new tranny put in and it shifted rough as soon as I got it. Went back the next morning to pick up an item I left in the courtesy car and when I pulled in all the warning lights including the D5 light were flashing. They checked it out and changed the speed sensor on the new trans.

One question - are there any internal changes to the new transmissions they are putting in?

Acura called and I got it back today.

Smooth 1 to 2. Very rough 2 to 3. So-so 3 to 4.

Got the new tranny and new ECU.

Yup. I was supposed to go to Virginia tonight but had to delay it until tomorrow. I'm just glad they were able to get it done quickly.

Green one with the dent in the rear passenger door and the funky XM antenna = me

I got my TL-S used w/ 30k. The tranny was replaced last year and I have the same shifting pattern......very hard 2 to 3 upshift especially under hard acceleration. Is that normal w/ the new ECU?

I noticed the same thing... I would not call it normal... I would call it what it is... I got rid of my car at 83000 miles. I figure the warranty was going to be gone soon, the car would need the timing belt replaced, tune up, brakes, etc. I decided it was not worth keeping
