Exclamation DIY - Replacing Ignition coils

I've changed ignition coils before, but cannot remember where the 1 started at. Is 1,3,5 the rear bank toward the front mirror, and 2,4,6 near the front bumper???

why do you need to know where 1,3,5 are. Just pull one at a time off. They arent different for each coil

If you are replacing coils based on a code that says multiple cylinder misfires---
You want to have 1 new good coil- install it on the first plug of your choice- does the car run better- No, move new coil to next spot and try again
Repeat until the actual failed coil is located and replaced.

Again- CODES are not diagnosis- they are merely CLUES to the real problem
Multi misfire code is OFTEN just 1 coil failure- and maybe not even the one the code said.

It is possible to damage the coils during a spark plug change- through rough handling, then 1 fails shortly after that. They are like lightbulbs- work one time and then Gone!!

The diagnosis was correct, coils 2-6 had to be replaced. I did the take one out and swap, wasted time! Running smooth!

wow, craziest thing, this just happened to me too, i guess one of my coils went out while i was driving. honestly totally new experience for me, i had no idea what was going on. i thought it was my tranny at first, from the sounds i heard and the jerking my car was doing. lol i got home, smelled tranny fluid but it seemed fine. i had to go to work, came home late, and school the next day, so i just left the car at home. and i guess my dad fixed it while i was gone

then i go on here and theres a thread about it too haha. learn something new every day in this place
