DIY for painting calipers?
Hey all...what did you guys with painted calipers have to do before you started spraying? What did you cover up with newspaper? Do I have to cover the body as well, in case of overspray??
Please no responds with "do a search" thanks! I've done my share in helping others so I'm hoping some of you guys will help me back.
Thanks in advance for the help!

I used Engine paint (1200degree) I know its over kill but it was in the color I liked. I used a dremel to clean and smooth the calipers. Then sprayed the whole caliper down with brake cleaner. Next took the calipers off the rotors and then used a garbage bag and completly covered the rotor etc. Then just sprayed on 3 coats of paint. Leaving about 20 mins to dry between coats. If the wind is calm you shouldnt get any overspray. Good luck!

1. take off wheel
2. take a shower cap and put it over the rotor
3. use a hardwire brush to brush off any loose rust or dirt
4. spray the high-temp paint over the caliper. Since it is inside the wheel well there is no concern of overspray on the fender or the rotor (covered by shower cap). Even if the paint got onto the rotor, once you brake the paint will come off
5. Repeat for 2-3 coats, once dried you are done
it's just a brake caliper. As long as the color stays good, it'll look great. I don't see the need to sand or do anything excessive to make them look like an exterior part (ie, spoiler, kit, etc)

I picked my Caliper Painting Kit up at Eastwood tools, and painted them almost six months ago - they still look as good as the day I painted them. The kit comes with everything you need, with the exception of a steel brush that you may need if your brake dust is really heavy (I used an old toothbrush).
Here is the link (several colors to choose from):

Here is a description from the site:
High Temperature Brake Caliper Coating - Designed for street and performance applications. Resistant to 900 degrees F and can be applied without removing or disassembling the caliper. These urethane coatings feature a 90+% gloss finish, does not fade with heat or UV exposure. Coating self-levels, prevents corrosion and attack from chemicals. Includes instruc., 2 component color - activation system, mixing jar, stir stick, degreaser and application brush. Coats @ 4 sq. ft. or 4 calipers. Made in the USA.
Only thing to note, and I am sure this goes with ALL types of caliper paint jobs - you will have to spend extra attention to keep them clean. It is definitely a pain to clean the calipers with the rims (mine are stock TLS) on the car - seems no matter how I park a portion of the rim is always in front of the caliper on one of the 4 wheels........
Hope this helps.

I used VHT paint which I don't recommend unless you use 2-3 bottles on just the front. I've had to redo them already cause I put on 2 coats and got slight removal. Make sure not to get any paint on the inner or outter part of the roter that will not come off by braking. If you can just remove the caliper and save a little bit of stress and get more of a professional look.

Hey guys....I'm getting New Rotors and pads on tomorrow and wanted to paint the calipers as well. So what do I need? Brake cleaner? and the Paint? is that all and can I pick these up from Pepboys or something? Is the spray or brush on paint better?

I did mine a few weeks ago...Here are some pics.
I didn't use a painting kit, just some brake cleaner, rubbing alcohol, and a can of engine block paint.
Edit: I taped it off with newspaper and plastic grocery bags, and used 5 coats of paint.
