Being in the plastics business; here is the short answer....

What is polyurethane?
The easy answer is that it's a flexible plastic, called an elastomer. A scientifically accurate answer is that it is a polymer (a material made up of many repeating chemical units) which has urethane as a repeating unit.

So.. what is urethane?
Urethane is a collection of 5 specific atoms arranged in a specific way. The atoms are 1 nitrogen, 1 carbon, 2 oxygen, and 1 hydrogen. This arrangement is created when an isocyanate (a chemical group of atoms with 1 nitrogen, 1 carbon, 1 oxygen) reacts with a hydroxyl (1 oxygen and 1 hydrogen) group. Glad you asked?

What is the difference between polyurethane and urethane?
Usually they mean the same thing. Very technically, urethane is a specifically arranged group of atoms, and polyurethane is a material which contains lots of urethane groups.

From what I've read, people have used roofing polyurethane. You can get it at Home Depot and Lowe's.

Ok I am pretty quick learner on things, but I must be missing something here... some of my info comes from the thread link above to the CL board..

- "you" buy new motor mounts if your motor mounts are shot.. I would assume that would mean broken or possibly if the rubber gasket/sleeve is ruined and crap gets in there ( it is like a little shock right?)
- The CL member mentioned he bought the mounts so he could improve on wheel hop and "get more power to the wheels"
- What they have done is take brand new mounts and covered the rubber sleeve with a think layer of polyurethane.
- This process of "thickening" the rubber sleeve decreases the ammount of travel the engine recivese during acceleration, around corners, etc...

The points above are what I have gathered from the quick look at the few threads I saw.. Somebody please correct me where I am wrong, or at least point out what other advantages am I missing..?

I could see fixing the suspension and tires to prevent wheel hop on acceleration, this motor mount thingy isn't too clear..

Thanks in advance..

In a nutshell, the OEM motor mounts are not designed to deal with the power some of us are putting down with the mods we have. Even those that are stock are wearing out the mounts pretty quickly.

I recently did my front and side mount with the Window Weld as described in the CL thread.

My front mount was torn and was leaking hydraulic fluid. This caused the mount to flex way to much.

By filling the top and sides of the mount, it prevents the mount from traveling back and forth when the engine torques but by using a flexible material it can still move a little.

I can definitely tell the difference. When I'm in 2nd at high rpms and I gun it, I used to be literally be able to feel the engine move before the car. Not any more.
