did my GF F-up my car?

Ok so im driving to Chi-town with my girl and needed some rest ( I got an 03 TLS w/ 88k btw)....and i wake up to the car shaking like carraazzzy. So im like wtf is going on!!?? Um..the dumb girl (i love her but damn shes dumb) was going 80 with the shift nob in to the left...Yes thats correct, she was going 80 in 1st gear and didnt even notice it..i immiedately told her to hit the breaks and got it back into automatic and told her to get off on first exit so i could drive...Sooo(sorry about the long story)...Did this or could this have messed up my tranny or anyting else? THe whole car was shaking and making horrible sounds. It drives perfect now and its been 2 days. It has been bothering me ever since however. This car is my baby and i really hope nothing is wrong. Should I have it checked out? Thanks.

It had to be second gear, but still that's crazy. Your best bet is to check the ATF and/or take the car somewhere like cottman for a free trans-check.

your trany will break soon. It seems like it is just a matter of time with these cars. This will only quicken it.

yeah I see all of the threads about failed transmissions, but surely there has to be ALOT of cars that never have problems...right? or is that just wishful thinking? I mean how can every tranny be bad? and i just reread my recall notice and I saw nothing about 100k miles...will they cover it over 100k or is 100k the cutoff(and if so where is that stated?)...thanks.

Doesn't happen to everyone or even most...it happens more on this forum than anywhere else I'd be willing to bet. Best bet, change and flush your fluid more often, say every 45-60k and buy another warranty after the 109k/7yrs runs out.

its not completly her fault, one time i left it in SS and forgot, but when i heard the rpms rising and expecting a shift i remebered and corrected, woulda been worse since my first gear doesnt auto upshift.

I can't believe she didn't realize that it's not supposed to jerk around like that. I've heard other horror stories in the past of guys letting their girlfriends drive their cars and the same thing happened. I'm sure she has ridden in your car before, I would think that if she felt it shaking that much she would have woken you up and asked WTF was going on.

I doubt she did 80 in 2nd gear. She would have hit the rev limited. Maybe that is the shaking you are talking about, the fuel cut off.

Your probably exagerating a bit, but that sucks. Shit happens, don't get all upset at her. If its driving fine now, im sure you'll be ok.

Agree with Phipark

Rev limiter is most likely what you felt- engine cuts in and out something firece
No damage because of it- it prevents damage

She was probably in 2nd or 3rd and wound it out
No Biggee
Educate other drivers of your car or let no one drive it!

like everyone said, she probably bounced off the rev-limiter.

in the end, just ask yourself one question: is your TL or your gf hotter?

There are several companies that offer extended warranties on cars. GE is one of the best from what I here though, some will fight you tooth and nail over repairs. The best thing is that the dealership has to honor third-party warranties when you take your car there. Terms will be different than factory though.

Angry This is why you don't let your girl drive your car

In this case, my wife...she says she was pulling out of a parking spot (parallel parking in Chicago...of course right?) and she misjudged how much room she had in front, so here is the result....

Yes, I got really mad at her, yes she's really sorry for doing this to my car, yes she promised to make it up to me (Motorcycle baby!), No I am not replacing it because it will soon be paid off in june and whats the point of buying a new bumper for it when im gonna end up getting an body kit for it anyway?

GOD, I was so pissed off, shit it pisses me off just looking at it everyday...

i have a 02 TL-S i let my cousin drove it.. and obviously he's a dumb-a.... and he said he as going to push.. switch off with him.. and he took it to the highway..but he didnt know that he had it on sequential.. and my dumbself thought that he knew what he was doing.... so i wasnt paying attention.. the car did shifted to 2nd gear but then he was redlining it... and i wasnt paying attention wit the music up so loud.. but when he said your car is weak.. after 50.. looked over and saw him in 2nd gear... i switch it to third and so on.. and then drove it for 2 months... the car runs fine... didnt seen to have any problems.... but then as it goes the gear started slipping and the engine light came on.. and the tranny failed on me.. and i just had the tranny replaced at 58k and again at 63k... was pretty upset but it was still cover under warranty...but then i sold the car this weekend.. so i dont have to deal with the tranny again..

All of the body kits for the TL don't replace the OEM front bumper, they attach to it. So even if you get a kit, you'll need to get that bumper fixed/replaced. Except for the Sarona kit but that thing is ugly. Sorry to hear about the accident.

there are body kits, not just ground effects. So I don't agree with AMGala, no disrespect or anything, just saying that there are FEW body kits that replace the entire front and back bumpers. IF I was you Gatzuko, I would just take the bumper off, heat that paint a little (do it on the hot day if you don't have a heat gun) and just push that corner into its original position. Yes there will be no paint on that spot, but it will be much better than just looking at a huge dent.
I use to let girls drive my other car, not TL of course. I haven't found the worthy girl of driving it haha.
