delay in reverse gear
delay in reverse gear
I recently an acura 99 with 107k miles on original tranny. Immediately after buying i got the transmission fluid changed (ATF-Z1). The previous tranmission fluid change was done on major maintainence at 85k.
I notice that shifting gear from parking to reverse is hard when i turn the car on for the first time and there is a delay of like 1-2 sec. I also hear a click noise. I am wondering if this is normal or sign of any upcoming trouble. The other gears are working fine.
thanks

yeah, thats what happened with my prelude in the day too. is your car a clean title? If so bring it into a dealer, and if the service manager is nice you might be able to get a goodwill replacement.
Bring it to your Acura dealer and take a tech for a drive. Even if they don't find anything, if something happens it's on their record that you were experiencing difficulty and you're more likely to get a good willed tranny.
Mine is doing the same thing, pre-tran fluid change. I stopped by (i only have 78,000) and they said it was normal and recommended a fluid change. I did it figuring that if it failed, I still have my warrenty.
Good luck man.
The tech that rode with me was adament that a 1-2 second pause between P and D or R and D was normal for our cars. We'll see....

1-2 seconds is NORMAL- longer than that is not- if it feels like it does 2 thunks to engage thats not good
the OP has a 99, past the limit of 7 years plus 9 months since date car first sold
But it never hurts to ask for some GOODWILL- especially if the dealer has done the major service at 85 on the car
Be nice to the service manager and the service writer for best results
Flush is a difficult word- acura uses it to mean the 3x3 method of manually drain 3 qts- that is all the trans can give up at one time, add 3 new and drive 5 minutes using each gear up and down to push the remaining old fluid thru the system to the drain area,
then drain 3 add 3- drive 5 drain 3 add 3 done.
Trans holds 7.3 qts total, so we get most of it out that way- you can use 12 qts total on the job for a more comlete ~flush~
We cannot use a machine flush like other cars- or a suction machine either- there is a metal plate inside trans to prevent that
